The victim sustained a stab wound to the abdomen and was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment. Authorities later arrested the suspect, a Grade 10 student who is also 17 years old.
According to police, the victim had previously informed a teacher that he had received threats. The teacher reportedly advised him to remain inside the school premises after classes. However, the student still left the campus, and the attack took place shortly afterward.

Investigators said the victim was with several friends when the incident happened. Despite being in a group, he was the only one targeted by the suspect.

“Ang victim, involved siya sa grupo-grupong away. May sinabi siya na ang kanilang kaaway ng grupo is nandyan raw sa mall. On his way there, nasaksak siya ng suspek, which is also a minor,” said Police Lt. Col. Joem Malong, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office in the Negros Island Region.
Police are also looking into the circumstances that may have led to the confrontation.
“Bale ang biktimang ito, hinabol raw niya ang suspek. May nangyari raw na suntukan, gumanti ito sa suspek,” said Police Capt. Rodney Sarona, deputy chief of the San Carlos City Police Station, citing the suspect’s statement.
Following the incident, authorities announced plans to strengthen security measures in and around schools.
“Iyan ang isang concern, especially sunod-sunod na sya. Nakita natin ng may something sa mga kabataan. We have to review,” said Malong.
The Department of Education in the Negros Island Region has already convened a meeting involving the families of both students.

The stabbing occurred just a day after a separate school shooting incident in Tacloban City that left three students dead and several others injured, raising renewed concerns about youth violence and school safety across the country.
In other news, a 45-year-old woman lost her life in Bocaue after she was allegedly attacked by her 33-year-old half-brother following an argument over fare money. Authorities said the victim sustained multiple injuries during the incident and was declared dead before reaching the hospital. The suspect has since been arrested and is expected to face a murder charge.
Meanwhile, a 37-year-old man in Bokod was arrested in connection with the killing of his 74-year-old mother. The case came to light after a resident spotted human remains partially buried in a shallow grave. Investigators later found bloodstains and other pieces of evidence inside the home shared by the suspect and the victim. Police are continuing their investigation to determine the motive behind the crime.
