Karla Estrada turned her mother Thelma Ilago’s birthday into an opportunity to reflect on motherhood, sacrifice, and the lessons she learned while growing up.

The mother of actor and recording artist Daniel Padilla shared a heartfelt birthday message for Thelma, looking back on her own childhood and how her mother’s experience as a single parent helped shape her perspective on raising a family.
In her message, Karla recalled that she never expected or imagined that she would eventually have to raise and provide for her children on her own. However, she said that becoming a single mother may have been a path she was prepared to take because she herself had been raised by a single mother.
“I never wished for or imagined that I would have to raise and provide for my children on my own, but that became my destiny,” Karla wrote.

She then connected her own experience as a mother to the example set by Thelma when Karla and her siblings were growing up.
“Perhaps I was prepared for this journey because I was also raised by my mother, who was a single mother herself,” she added.
According to Karla, she did not grow up seeing her mother’s exhaustion or regret. Instead, what she remembered most was Thelma’s dedication to raising her children properly and helping them become good people.
“Growing up, I never saw her exhaustion or regret. Her only focus was to raise us, her children, properly and to make sure that we would grow up to become good people,” she shared.
Karla thanked her mother not only for raising her and her siblings but also for giving them the gift of life.
“Happy Birthday, Mama! Thank you for the life you gave us, your children,” she wrote.
However, one of the most meaningful parts of Karla’s tribute was the lesson she said Thelma taught her about what it truly means to be a mother.
“Most of all, thank you for teaching me that being a mother does not mean simply enduring and staying in a home that is no longer happy,” Karla said.
She explained that, in her view, motherhood also involves making the peace and happiness of one’s children a priority. A family home may not always be complete in the traditional sense, she noted, but it can still be filled with genuine love, happiness, and warmth when children have a devoted mother.
“More importantly, it means prioritizing the peace and happiness of your children—even in a home that may not be complete, but is filled with genuine love, joy, and warmth from a devoted mother,” she continued.
Karla ended her emotional message by once again thanking Thelma for everything she had done for their family.
“Thank you so much, Mama, for everything. 😘 We love you so much,” she wrote.
She then described her mother in especially powerful terms, calling Thelma “the strongest woman I know.”
Daniel Padilla is a major figure in Philippine entertainment, known for his work as both an actor and recording artist and for his former title as the industry’s “Teen King.” His career has included multi-platinum albums and major box-office successes, particularly during his years as one-half of the highly popular “KathNiel” tandem.
