Veronica “Kitty” Duterte closed out August with a heartfelt tribute to her father, former Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte, who is currently detained at the International Criminal Court (ICC) Detention Centre in The Hague, Netherlands.

On Monday, August 31, Kitty shared a black-and-white childhood photo of herself with her father. The photo was taken during a city hall lighting ceremony, where Rodrigo lit up the building and officially initiated the festivities.
Kitty described the memory as bittersweet, particularly because August was one of the few months her father actually liked.

She then recalled arriving late to the event because she had come from her tutor. Despite this, her father made sure she could still take part in the ceremony by letting her press the button with him.
“i was a little late because i came from my tutor, but he made sure i got to press the button with him,” Kitty shared.
The childhood memory also prompted Kitty to express her love and longing for her father. She affectionately called him “sweet papa rody” and reflected on the influence he had on her upbringing, particularly her exposure to music, art, and poetry.
“i love you and i miss you, sweet papa rody. no amount of lights have ever lit up my eyes like you have. God knows how blessed i feel to have grown up in music, art and poetry with you,” she wrote.
Kitty ended her message with a poignant expression of hope, saying she looks forward to singing with her father again.
