In a video published by Kapuso Showbiz News on August 27, the singer struggled to hold back her tears while speaking about the loss. She admitted that she was still trying to process what had happened.
“I'm still in shock, honestly. It all happened so fast,” Julie Anne said.
For the Kapuso star, Vanessa was more than a singer she worked with during her younger years. Their bond began in childhood and continued long after their early years in the group.

“She was a dear friend. She was our childhood best friend,” she shared.
Julie Anne and Vanessa were both contestants on the QTV11 singing competition “Pop Star Kids” in 2005. After the competition, they became members of Sugarpop together with Rita Daniela, Pocholo Bismonte, and Renzo Almario.
Years of singing and performing together gave the group many shared memories. During the interview, the actress spoke about an album they had made and how listening to it now brings Vanessa back to mind.
“We had an album, so every time we would listen to it, like, I really wish that she was still here,” she said.
The performer also recalled one of the last memorable moments she shared with Vanessa. During a reunion production, Vanessa recorded a video and gave her a warm hug. Julie Anne said the simple gesture stayed with her because it had been a long time since a friend embraced her that way.
Their group had also been hoping to reunite again. The singer said they were still a team, making the sudden loss even more difficult for everyone who had grown up alongside Vanessa.

Shortly after learning the news, Julie Anne honored her friend through an Instagram Story. She remembered their plans and wrote, “Wani, still can't believe it... Plano pa naman natin mag-reunion. Sugarpop will never be the same without you. Rest in Heaven, Wani.”
