Despite being a minor, the 15-year-old Grade 9 student behind the tragic shooting incident at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City is now facing the full weight of the law.
In a news report from GMA's Unang Balita, the Tacloban Police confirmed that they have filed several criminal charges against the main suspect, who used a .38 caliber revolver during the classroom shooting.

According to the report, the teenager is facing three counts of murder, frustrated murder, and multiple counts of serious physical injury.

Under the Philippine law, children in conflict with the law can still face criminal charges if they are between 15 and 18 years old, provided it is proven that they acted with full understanding. Police Brigadier General Jason Capoy shared that this crucial factor was verified in the investigation.

"It was established that he acted with discernment, and nagkaroon po ng certification yung CSWD," PBGen. Capoy explained. "May tool sila in measuring the level of discernment ng mga involved po," he added.
The evaluation conducted by the City Social Welfare and Development office ensures that the 15-year-old can be held legally accountable for the violence that shook the school community.
Meanwhile, his 14-year-old companion is protected under Republic Act 9344, or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act, meaning he will not face criminal liability. Instead, the younger teenager will be placed under a strict, multi-year intervention program managed by social workers.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and police authorities continue to work closely on the case, focusing not only on legal prosecution but also on providing psychological first aid to the traumatized students and teachers who witnessed the horrific event.

Friends and family remember Chris Lorenz as a hero who reportedly died while trying to save his classmates. While grateful for the overwhelming offers of assistance, the Fabian family stands firm in demanding justice for his death/ Christopher strongly urged that the parents of the juvenile suspects be held civilly and legally responsible for the tragedy in Tacloban.
Meanwhile, Vice President Sara Duterte visited the wake of victims of the Tacloban City school shooting early Wednesday morning. She personally met with grieving families, offering condolences and emotional support during their time of loss. Duterte assured the families that efforts would be made to ensure justice for the victims of the tragedy. The shooting at San Jose National High School left three teenagers dead and 20 others injured which has since made headlines online.
