While checking student packs as a proactive security measure, instructors stumbled upon a .357 magnum revolver concealed inside the bag.

Responding quickly to the alarming situation, the school administration immediately contacted local authorities.

Police officers assigned to the area arrived promptly to secure the item. According to statements released by the Cebu Police Provincial Office, the weapon was recovered safely.

“Without ammunition. The firearm was subsequently secured for proper documentation and disposition,” Cebu Police Provincial director PCol. Abubakar Mangelen stated.

Subsequent police inquiries revealed that the weapon allegedly originated from a residential cabinet where an older relative kept it.

Investigators noted that the firearm was reportedly taken from the home storage before being brought onto school grounds.

Because the student's primary caretakers live elsewhere due to work commitments, local social welfare units stepped in to coordinate proper handling and support procedures in line with institutional standards.

Highlighting the importance of swift reporting, police commanders praised the school personnel for their vigilance.

“We commend the school personnel for immediately reporting the discovery and seeking police assistance. Their prompt action helped ensure that the situation was contained before it could potentially lead to harm,” Mangelen added.
