“Bilang magulang ay matagal na akong may takot sa tuwing lalabas ng bahay ang aking anak,” she said.

She questioned whether the incident should be viewed solely as a matter of school security or whether it points to deeper problems affecting Filipino youth.

“Safety concern lamang ba ito o mas malalim pa?” she asked.

Tuesday noted that today’s young generation is facing pressures that adults may not always fully understand. She pointed to societal expectations, the constant noise of the digital world, isolation and emotional struggles that can remain hidden from the people around them.

“I know this generation is dealing with a lot more than what we can comprehend,” she wrote.

For Tuesday, the tragedy highlighted how serious the emotional and mental health challenges confronting young people have become. She said Filipino youth are carrying burdens that can sometimes be overwhelming, particularly when emotional pain and despair remain unaddressed.

She also raised the issue of access to firearms, warning that when intense anger or hopelessness intersects with easy access to lethal weapons, the consequences can become irreversible.

Tuesday consequently called on parents and gun owners to take concrete precautions at home. She urged firearm owners to properly secure their guns and keep ammunition separated to help prevent accidents and other potentially devastating incidents.

“MAGING RESPONSABLENG GUN OWNER,” she emphasized.

But Neri’s appeal extended beyond firearm safety. She also encouraged parents and other adults to spend more time genuinely checking on young people and listening to what they may be going through.

For her, protecting children cannot be accomplished by schools alone. Families and communities must also take responsibility for creating environments where young people feel heard, supported and protected.

Tuesday stressed that the problems affecting the younger generation did not emerge overnight. She described the situation as an ongoing crisis involving the emotional and mental well-being of children and adolescents, saying it requires serious study and a coordinated response.

She called for assistance from the government, as well as swift and genuine justice for the victims and their families. Tuesday also expressed hope that the tragedy would prompt authorities and communities to examine what more can be done to prevent similar incidents.

Hindi ito kahapon lamang nabuo.
