Actor-turned-senator Robin Padilla revealed that he is rethinking his earlier plans to retire from public life, citing both personal priorities and his concerns about the country’s political system.

Padilla shared his thoughts during an appearance on the April 24 episode of “Politiko Talks,” where the discussion touched on his reported decision to sell the Museo de Padilla, a well-known property in Quezon City. The venue, once the Padilla family home, has since been converted into an events space showcasing traditional Filipino architecture with Spanish influences.

During the interview, Padilla reflected on his long-standing desire to step away from the spotlight.

“2010 pa nung naging lovey-dovey kami ni Mariel, gusto ko nang mag-retire, magpunta sa abroad,” he said.

Recalling earlier plans with his wife, Mariel Rodriguez-Padilla.

However, the senator indicated that his decision now goes beyond personal considerations. Looking ahead to the 2028 elections, Padilla openly expressed his dissatisfaction with the country’s current system of government.

“I'm sorry, patawarin niyo ako, hindi ko nakikita ang future [sa] sistemang ito,” he said.

Hinting that his political future may depend on whether meaningful changes occur.

Padilla also revealed that he and his wife had explored living abroad in the past. Among the places they considered was Brunei, where they even conducted an ocular visit. However, the plan did not push through after Rodriguez-Padilla found the climate too hot. Iceland was another option, but the couple ultimately ruled it out due to the high cost of living.

The topic of Museo de Padilla’s sale also drew speculation, particularly regarding whether it was intended to fund a future political campaign. Padilla quickly dismissed this idea, asserting that he did not rely on campaign funds even during the 2022 elections, where he topped the senatorial race.

Despite the rumors, Padilla shared that he is pleased with the level of interest in the property. He added a light remark about preferring transactions in foreign currency, jokingly saying he has reservations about the local currency.

As he weighs his next steps, Padilla’s statements reflect a mix of personal priorities and broader concerns about governance, leaving open questions about what lies ahead in both his political career and private life.
