A father and his two children died after they were swept away by a strong current while swimming at Antipolo River in Barangay Calinan Proper, Davao City.

The incident was reported on “Unang Balita,” which said the tragedy happened on Tuesday while the family was at the river. According to the Kalinan Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, floodwaters suddenly rushed down from the mountain even though there was no rain in the area at the time.

Because of the strong current, the man and his two children, aged four and eight, failed to survive.

Hours after the incident, the body of the four-year-old child was first recovered. The following day, authorities found the remains of the eight-year-old sibling and their father.

The report also said authorities continue to remind the public to stay cautious, especially in areas near rivers and mountainous locations, because flash floods may still occur even without direct rainfall in the area.

Meanwhile, PAGASA also raised a thunderstorm advisory for parts of Metro Manila and nearby provinces including Bulacan, Quezon Province, Laguna, Cavite, Rizal, and Batangas.

According to the weather bureau, affected areas may experience flooding and landslides due to heavy rains and thunderstorms. Residents were also advised to remain alert and monitor updates from local authorities.

The same report also mentioned flooding in parts of Barangay Lagtingan in Pikit, Cotabato after several rivers overflowed because of continuous rainfall.

Authorities continue to remind the public to stay careful during the rainy season as weather conditions can quickly change and put communities at risk.

In other news, a tragic altercation in Bocaue resulted in the death of a 45-year-old woman after she was reportedly attacked by her younger half-brother. Law enforcement officials indicated that the conflict was triggered by a disagreement regarding a request for fare money. The victim suffered several fatal injuries during the encounter and was pronounced dead prior to her arrival at the local hospital. Following the incident the 33-year-old suspect was taken into custody by police and is anticipated to be charged with murder.

Still in other news, a 37-year-old resident of Bokod was apprehended for the alleged murder of his 74-year-old mother within their shared community. The grim discovery occurred when a nearby resident noticed remains partially exposed from a shallow grave in the area. Investigators uncovered forensic evidence and bloodstains within the residence that the suspect occupied with the deceased. Local police are currently conducting a deeper inquiry to determine the specific reasons behind this violent act.
