The actress first shared her mother’s diagnosis publicly in July. In a recent interview with Karen Davila featured on her YouTube vlog, Awra recalled how learning about Marivic’s condition became a wake-up call and made her realize how much her family needed her.
“Nung narinig ko po 'yung balita about my mother dun po ako nagising na parang my family needs me, my mother needs me.
The experience also changed the way Awra viewed the money she had worked hard to save. Rather than hesitate about spending her savings, she said she was willing to use them for her family’s needs, knowing she could work and rebuild her finances again.

Awra further shared that she now makes it a priority to immediately respond whenever her mother or siblings need assistance.
Despite finding renewed motivation, Awra admitted that she remains frightened by her mother’s diagnosis, particularly because Marivic is still young.
“Sobra po akong natatakot kasi bata pa po 'yung mama ko at alam naman po natin na pagbata ka, mas aggressive 'yung cancer kumalat,” she said.
Still, Awra said she chooses to focus on hope instead of allowing fear to overwhelm her. She explained that she leaves the situation in God’s hands while continuing to believe that it is too early to give up.
“Pero ayaw ko pong mag-isip ng negatibo. Gusto ko lang po mag-isip ng positive and pinagpapasa-Diyos ko na lang po,” she added.
Awra also shared an update on Marivic’s treatment, revealing that her mother has already completed two chemotherapy sessions.
She also praised her older sister for consistently accompanying their mother to the hospital and handling the paperwork and tests required for her treatment.
“And sobrang sipag po ng ate ko lakarin lahat ng papel, lahat ng pagsama niya sa mama ko sa ospital linggo-linggo, walang kasawa-sawang test,” Awra said.
The actress emphasized that seeing her family go through the difficult period has only strengthened her resolve to continue working and meeting their needs.
For Awra, the difficult chapter has become a powerful reminder of why she continues to push forward—not only for herself, but also for the people she considers her greatest motivation.
