The assistance was announced through the Facebook page of the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur, which shared photos of Rene's mother, Rovelyn Baterbonia, signing the necessary documents to formally receive the housing unit.
According to the provincial government, the Baterbonia family spent more than two decades living in a house that was frequently flooded whenever heavy rains struck their community. Because of the recurring floods, they were often forced to evacuate and temporarily leave their home.
Despite those hardships, Rene reportedly remained determined to achieve one goal for his family—to one day provide them with a safe and decent home. His mother had previously shared that it was one of the dreams he often talked about.

In its statement, the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur emphasized that the family's long-awaited dream had finally come true through the combined efforts of several government agencies and local officials.
"Today, that dream has become a reality. Through the generosity of the National Housing Authority (NHA), with the support of the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur (PGAS), Governor Santiago B. Cane Jr., the Local Government Unit of Talacogon, and other partners, the family received a condominium unit worth P2.266 million—a home that offers safety, stability, and a fresh start after years of living in a flood-prone area."
The provincial government also noted that while the family's pain remains, the new home represents more than just a place to live. It stands as a reminder that kindness and community support can help families move forward even after experiencing unimaginable loss.
"While no home can ever replace the presence of a beloved son, this new beginning stands as a lasting reminder that compassion can turn grief into hope. It is a testament to how a community came together to honor Bobet's memory not only through words and tributes, but through an act of kindness that will continue to shelter and uplift the family he loved so deeply."
Rene was among those who died together with fellow Ateneo player Divine Adili after the two drowned during a Blue Eagles team-building activity in Aurora. His remains were brought back to his hometown of Talacogon, Agusan del Sur, on June 15, where family members, relatives, friends, and supporters paid their final respects.
Although no amount of assistance can replace the son they lost, the new condominium unit fulfills a dream Rene had always hoped to achieve for his family. For the Baterbonias, the home now serves as both a symbol of hope for the future and a lasting reminder of the love and sacrifices Rene made for those closest to him.
In another report, the mother of Rene Clert “Bobet” Baterbonia said she would never part with the basketball jerseys her son entrusted to her, no matter how much money was offered. The family reflected on the financial struggles they endured together before Bobet achieved success in basketball, noting that he remained humble despite earning major accolades. Despite his growing success on the basketball court, Bobet never stopped helping provide for his family, his loved ones shared.
Meanwhile, Rene Baterbonia Sr. spent his first Father's Day grieving the loss of his son, basketball standout Bobet Baterbonia. He spoke about the heartbreak of marking the occasion without his son, recalling the close bond they shared through basketball. The grieving father revealed that he personally coached and trained Bobet from an early age, helping nurture his passion for the sport. Despite his family's tragedy, Rene Sr. encouraged fellow parents to stay actively involved in their children's lives and cherish every moment with them.
