Dumanjug Mayor Efren Gica has enforced a cellphone ban in all public schools in Dumanjug, Cebu, beginning today as part of efforts to strengthen campus safety following a series of violent incidents in schools.

Under the new policy, students are no longer allowed to bring or use cell phones while inside public schools. According to the mayor, any student found carrying a cellphone will have the device confiscated, and it will only be returned at the end of the school year.

Mayor Gica also issued a firm reminder to parents who may not agree with the policy.

"Kapag nahulihan ng cellphone ang isang bata sa eskwelahan, kukumpiskahin ito at ibabalik lang sa katapusan ng school year."

He further said that parents who are not in favor of the cellphone ban may choose to transfer their children to schools in another town.

"Kung hindi sang-ayon ang mga magulang sa cellphone ban, maaari nilang ilipat sa ibang bayan ang kanilang mga anak."

Aside from prohibiting cell phones, the local government announced stricter inspection procedures for students and teachers entering public schools. The additional security measure aims to help ensure a safer learning environment for everyone on campus.

The policy comes after reports of consecutive violent incidents involving schools, prompting local officials to introduce stricter safety measures. Authorities believe limiting cellphone use and increasing security checks can help maintain order and improve student discipline.

In other news, a tragic altercation in Bocaue resulted in the death of a 45-year-old woman after she was reportedly attacked by her younger half-brother.
