The ICC has been investigating Duterte’s anti-dr&g campaign, which has been linked to thousands of extrajudicial killings since his presidency began in 2016.

Despite repeated refusals to cooperate with the court, the issuance of the warrant ultimately led to his arrest, marking a historic moment in international justice.

The arrest has sparked strong reactions both in the Philippines and globally.

Supporters of Duterte have criticized the ICC’s involvement, arguing that the Philippines withdrew from the court in 2019 and that it has no jurisdiction.

However, legal experts argue that the ICC retains authority to investigate crimes committed before the withdrawal.

Robredo’s statement reinforces her stance on human rights and the rule of law, aligning with the broader calls for accountability over Duterte’s drug war policies.
