Actor Edu Manzano proudly celebrated a major milestone in his son Diego Aspiras’ football career after the 22-year-old made history as the first homegrown Filipino player to play in the Singapore Premier League.

Geylang International announced the signing of Aspiras, with coach Noor Ali expressing confidence in the young Filipino’s potential. The coach also highlighted the energy that Aspiras could bring to the club’s squad this season.

“He’s young and has good energy to bring to this year’s GIFC team,” Ali said of Aspiras.

The development marked an important step in Diego’s journey as he takes on a new football challenge outside the Philippines. For Edu, the opportunity is especially meaningful because he has witnessed the dedication and effort his son has poured into the sport.

Sharing several photos of Diego while playing football, the proud father expressed how happy he was to see his son pursue what he loves.

“Today, I’m sharing a few photos of him doing what he loves. As his father, I couldn’t be prouder,” Edu wrote in his post.

Edu also acknowledged the sacrifices and discipline that helped Diego reach the Singapore Premier League. Rather than treating the achievement as an endpoint, the actor reminded his son that the latest chapter is only the beginning of an even bigger challenge.

“I know the sacrifices, the discipline and the hard work it took to get here. But this is only the beginning. A new country. A new league. A bigger challenge,” he added.

The actor then shared an encouraging message for Diego as he begins his new chapter with Geylang International.

“Keep working, keep learning and keep carrying our flag with pride D. Go make your own history son. We’re all behind you,” Edu said.

Diego also expressed his excitement about joining the Singapore-based club and the opportunity to develop further under its coaching staff and alongside experienced players.

“Joining Geylang feels incredible. To be part of a team of this caliber and to play alongside the players here, while having top coaches to guide me to the level I need to be at, will only help me grow as a player, on and off the pitch,” Diego said in an interview with All Star.

As Diego begins his stint in the Singapore Premier League, his father’s message reflects both pride in what he has already accomplished and encouragement for the challenges still ahead.

Aside from Diego, Edu also has three other children from previous relationships: Luis, Addie, and Enzo.

Edu Manzano, whose real name is Eduardo Barrios Manzano, is an acclaimed Filipino actor, television host, and former politician known for his versatile roles in film and television over a career spanning several decades. In another report, veteran actor Edu Manzano strongly reacted to Martin Romualdez’s appeal for national unity. Edu shared a photo of the lawmaker on social media alongside a pointed caption in which he criticized Romualdez for allegedly contributing to problems instead of addressing them. Romualdez had previously been linked to allegations involving flood control projects, while a recent report said the Independent Commission for Infrastructure found him not liable in connection with the issue.

Meanwhile, Edu Manzano also spoke against treating Filipino resilience as something that should simply be celebrated whenever people are forced to endure preventable problems. On Saturday, August 29, he posted a social media card featuring an AI-generated image of himself depicted as a public works worker on a flooded street. The message highlighted the recurring difficulties Filipinos face, including flooding, traffic, rising prices, and other everyday challenges. Edu stressed that resilience should help people overcome life’s unavoidable hardships rather than become an excuse for repeatedly tolerating problems that could have been prevented.
