Explaining the inspiration behind the song’s title, James revealed that he and Issa had once considered Indiana as a possible name for their future child.

“We mentioned that name (Indiana) one day and considered it for a baby name. Issa and I always talk about having a child. I thought, ‘Wow, we love this imaginary person who does not exist yet and is not even present. We love you even though you aren’t here.’ That love will be there even after we are gone.”

The actor-singer also explained why “Indiana” took the longest to write. He said the subject was something he had never explored in his music before, while also emphasizing his hope that his future child would one day hear the song.

“It wasn't easy because I'd never written about this topic before. It's also something I hope my child will hear one day and something I want to dedicate to my future child. I want to make certain that we write a beautiful song that is timeless and will withstand the passage of time.”

James admitted that creating the song made him emotional as he imagined having a child with the love of his life.

When asked what kind of father he hopes to become, James expressed his desire to provide a loving and secure environment for his future children.

“I want to be the type of person who makes room for others to feel safe, loved, and secure. That's the kind of father I want to be.”
