On social media on Saturday, August 29, Edu shared a social media card featuring an AI-generated image of himself portrayed as a public works worker standing on a flooded street.
The card carried a message urging Filipinos not to romanticize resilience, particularly when people are forced to repeatedly survive problems that should have been addressed much earlier.
“HUWAG NATING I-ROMANTICIZE ANG FILIPINO RESILIENCE. Hindi dapat achievement ang paulit-ulit na pag-survive sa problemang dapat matagal nang inaayos. Ang Pilipino ay dapat resilient sa buhay, hindi sa palpak na sistema.”

In his caption, Edu challenged the familiar description of Filipinos as resilient, pointing to the way the term is often used in situations involving flooding, traffic, rising prices, and recurring problems.
“‘Filipinos are resilient.’ Baha? Resilient. Trapik? Resilient. Pataas nang pataas na bilihin? Resilient. Paulit-ulit na problema? Resilient na resilient.”
Edu then suggested that resilience should not always be the response expected from Filipinos when they are repeatedly confronted with preventable difficulties.
“Pero baka panahon na para hindi resilience ang kailangan natin. Accountability naman.”
He concluded his message by emphasizing that repeatedly surviving problems should not be treated as an achievement, especially when those problems could have been avoided.
“Hindi achievement ang paulit-ulit na pag-survive sa problemang puwedeng hindi naman nangyari.”
