A maritime cadet died after allegedly being punished by his upper class due to his "thumbs up" reaction in the group chat.

The punishment was a series of exercises, which caused the collapse of the victim, and eventually allegedly resulting in his death.

ABS-CBN reported that Calamba City Police identified the victim as Vince Anihon Delos Reyes, 19 years old, and a second-year student at a maritime academy.

"Apparently hindi nagustuhan nung senior class o nung 3rd year cadet yung 'thumbs up’ na parang sagot nung 2nd year cadet dun sa group," sabi Cuden.
"According dun sa investigation, si victim was ordered to perform series of exercises, so yung una is squat thrust for 100 repetitions, then 'yung pumping another hundred repetitions, then 'yung last kung saan siya nag collapsed is yung star jump. Supposedly 100 repetitions din accordingly… Aa counting nila on the 58th repetition ng star jump dun na siya nag collapse, humawak sa bed at dinala sa dispensary nila," he added.

A case of reckless imprudence resulting in h*micide was already filed against the suspect, as per the ABS-CBN report.

Remate reported that the maritime school is located in Barangay Canlubang in Calamba.

RMN identified the school as NYK-TDG Maritime Academy.
