After 10 years of balancing her showbiz career and education, Mikee finally graduated with a degree in Architecture from the University of Santo Tomas in 2025.
The actress shared some of the challenges she experienced while pursuing her degree during an appearance on Your Honor with Chariz Solomon and Buboy Villar.
According to Mikee, she had already started working in showbiz early in her college journey. Since no one in her family was involved in the entertainment industry, she initially had no idea whether she would eventually build a career in it.

“Unang show ko pa lang yun, and wala naman showbiz sa pamilya ko. Hindi ko alam kung magkakaroon ako ng career after, so it doesn't make sense na mag-shift ako or mag-quit ako ng school.”
She admitted that the 10-year journey was filled with uncertainty as she repeatedly questioned her decision to continue with Architecture.
“Yung journey noong sampung taon, it was a back and forth, 'Ah gusto ko ba 'to? Hindi na. Bakit ko ba ito ginagawa?' Ganun 'yung pinagdaanan ng utak ko.”
One of the moments that had a significant effect on her was when she received criticism related to her schoolwork.
“Yung pivotal moment nung na-hate ako, dun sa 'thesis' hate ko.”
Mikee recalled how the issue was later discussed online and even became content for Sassa Gurl, who was her co-star in Saving Cherry.
“Ginawa pang content ni Sassa Gurl 'yun e. Kaya nag-ano pa sa Saving Cherry and everything. Kinonfront ko siya dun. Diniretso ko sa isa sa mga inuman after taping.”
Mikee explained that she confronted Sassa because she was upset about the situation and how the thesis-related issue had been turned into content.
Another issue that affected her was a comment from a school groupmate who allegedly called her a burden during group work.
"Sabi nung groupmate ko sa school, pabigat daw ako sa group work. Tapos, pumutok kasi akala ng public it was a thesis. It was a landscaping class, hindi siya thesis. Individual ang thesis namin.”
Mikee admitted that the controversy had a major impact on her and made her consider focusing solely on her entertainment career.
“Kasi, akala ko parang nung time na yun, kumikita na ako. 'Tapos, sa school hindi ka naman kumikita dun. Ikaw pa gumagasto dun, di ba? So sa utak ko, 'Bakit ko pa 'to ginagawa?'
At that point, she felt more appreciated while working on set because she could immediately see the value of what she was contributing to her career.
“E, yung oras ko dito sa set na-appreciate ako, na gusto nila yung binibigay ko, yung value ko. Basically, in general, mas na-appreciate ka bakit mo 'to ginagawa.”
Her doubts about school eventually became a source of conflict between her and her parents. However, taking a two-semester break from UST gave Mikee time to reassess her priorities.
During that time, she reflected on her parents’ sacrifices, especially the millions they had already spent on her tuition.
“Dun sa break na 'yun, dun ako na-hit, minath ko 'yung ilang taon ng tuition.'Tapos, parang lagpas din ng milyon kung ima-math mo. 'Tapos, nahiya ako sa magulang ko na parang dahil nga nagta-trabaho na ako, alam ko na 'yung hirap ng pagkita ng pera. Pagkatapos nilang bayaran 'yung ilang taon ng tuition, wala ako degree na maibabalik.
That realization eventually changed her perspective. Instead of finishing her studies only because her parents expected her to, Mikee decided that earning her degree was something she also wanted for herself.
“So dun ko na-realize na gusto ko rin tapusin for myself, not just for my parents nung after ng break na 'yun.”
Her eventual graduation in 2025 marked the culmination of a decade-long journey, during which she continued pursuing Architecture while simultaneously building her career in showbiz.
