Comedian and entertainment personality Ogie Diaz has raised a pointed question about how local officials should communicate with residents during widespread flooding, suggesting that mayors could also share if their own homes and families have been affected by severe weather.

In a recent social media post, Diaz questioned whether there had been a mayor who publicly acknowledged that floodwaters had entered their home or that their own family had also suffered because of the storm.
“Meron na bang mayor na nag-post na pinasok din ng baha ang bahay niya?” Diaz wrote.
He followed the question by asking whether any mayor had also posted about being personally affected along with their family.

“O nag-post na kahit siya at ang pamilya niya ay naapektuhan din ng bagyo?” he added.
Diaz's remarks came as several parts of the Philippines continued dealing with the effects of persistent rains, flooding and the enhanced southwest monsoon, or Habagat. Recent government reports have documented widespread impacts in different provinces, with thousands of families displaced and communities relying on evacuation centers and relief operations.
Against this backdrop, Diaz emphasized that residents should not only look to their local leaders for announcements regarding class suspensions.
“Para di lang ang pag-announce kung may klase o wala ang hinihintay sa kanya ng taumbayan,” Diaz said.
For Diaz, public communication from local officials could also include showing that leaders themselves are facing some of the difficulties experienced by the communities they serve.
“Kundi kahit siya rin, apektado,” he concluded.
His post has sparked a broader discussion about how elected officials can demonstrate solidarity with constituents during disasters. While government leaders are expected to coordinate emergency response, provide public advisories and assist affected communities, Diaz's message focused specifically on the value of visibly acknowledging the hardships brought by disasters.
Ogie Diaz is a prominent Filipino talent manager, entertainment columnist, actor, and online talk show host known for his long-standing presence in Philippine show business. He is widely recognized for hosting the popular YouTube showbiz commentary show Ogie Diaz Showbiz Update and for managing top celebrities, most notably supervising the career of Kapamilya superstar Liza Soberano.
In another report, Bianca Gonzalez voiced her concern about the recurring floods that continue to affect various communities across the Philippines. She questioned the continued dependence on short-term responses whenever the rainy season arrives and urged greater focus on lasting solutions. Bianca pointed to flood management, reliable mass transportation, and effective governance as issues that require consistent action. She also wondered why other neighboring nations seem to handle comparable problems better while flooding remains a growing concern in the country.
Meanwhile, Joy Barcoma emphasized the importance of being mindful about proper waste disposal as flooding continues to affect many areas in the Philippines. She took part in a cleanup activity in Kasiglahan Village in Rodriguez, Rizal, on Wednesday, where she also joined Baus Rufo in handing out small surprises to residents impacted by the floods. Joy used the occasion to remind people that carelessly throwing away garbage can contribute to the worsening effects of flooding.
