The beauty queen-advocate made the appeal during a visit to a cleanup drive in Kasiglahan Village, Rodriguez, Rizal, on Wednesday, August 12. Her message focused on the responsibility of both authorities and ordinary citizens in preventing waste-related problems in flood-affected communities.
Joy, together with Baus Rufo for Unang Hirit, visited the area to see the condition of the roads following the flooding. The duo also distributed small surprises to residents during their visit.
In a video shared on social media, Joy pointed out that the effects of the southwest monsoon, or habagat, were still visible in the community.

"Bakas pa rin po ang pinsala na dulot po ng habagat. Pero kung makikita n'yo, pare-parehas pa rin po ang problema ng mga residente at maging ng ibang lugar na binaha," Joy said in one of her videos.
During the visit, Joy also called attention to garbage that had been left scattered around the area. She stressed that proper waste disposal should not be viewed as the sole responsibility of barangay officials or the government.
Instead, she encouraged everyone to recognize their individual role in keeping communities clean and reducing problems that may become more serious during flooding.
"Panawagan po ito, hindi lang po sa mga barangay [at] gobyerno, kundi maging sa lahat ng tao na maging mas responsable po tayo sa mga tinatapon nating basura. Dahil kung ano'ng tinapon mong basura ngayon, 'yun ang babalik sa'yo sa susunod na panahon," she added.
Joy's remarks come as flooding continues to affect different parts of the Philippines, highlighting the need for communities to remain mindful of their surroundings even after floodwaters recede.
For the advocate, responsible waste disposal is not simply about keeping streets clean. It is also part of the collective effort to lessen problems that communities may face when heavy rains and flooding strike.
Her message ultimately placed the responsibility on everyone, emphasizing that individual choices about waste can have consequences for an entire community.
