The news has sparked an outpouring of grief online, especially among former UAAP players and well-known personalities.

According to reports, Divine and Rene Clert passed away on June 8 during a team-building activity in Dipaculao, Aurora. The Philippine National Police Aurora Provincial Office later stated that there was no indication of foul play surrounding the incident.

Messages of condolence quickly flooded social media. Former UAAP star Kiefer Ravena wrote:

In an official statement, Ateneo de Manila University confirmed the passing of the two athletes and expressed deep sorrow over the loss.

“As a community, we mourn with the families and loved ones of Rene and Divine and entrust them to God’s loving mercy. We ask for continued prayers for all who are affected by this tragedy,” the statement read.

The university also said it is extending support to the bereaved families and requested privacy during this period of grief.

Divine Adili previously competed in the UAAP under UAAP Season 88, averaging 8.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 11 games. Meanwhile, Rene Clert Baterbonia, who recently joined Ateneo after his Palarong Pambansa stint, was expected to be part of the Blue Eagles’ incoming rookies.
