Vice Ganda opened up about the struggles he experienced during the early days of It's Showtime, including the time he almost decided to leave the program because of stress and low pay.

In an interview with BANDERA and officials of the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd), the comedian and TV host also shared that he once dreamed of becoming a lawyer. He said he took up Political Science at Far Eastern University because he was influenced by his late father and grandfather.

“Mag-aabogado ako talaga. Mag-aabogado talaga ako. Dati! Noong bata-bata ako,” Vice recalled.

The celebrity explained that people’s dreams often change as they grow older and discover their true interests.

“Mas makikilala mo yung sarili mo. ‘Ay! Ito pala ako. Hindi pala ako yun,’” he shared.

Vice then admitted that transitioning from comedy bars to mainstream television became overwhelming for him at first. According to the host, he experienced culture shock when he entered the entertainment industry on a bigger scale.

“Nu’ng from comedy bar, tapos nag-mainstream, tapos malala yung eksena. Naano ako doon, na-culture shock. As in lahat ng forms of shock. Parang na-overwhelm ako. Hindi ko siya kinaya,” he said.

The actor also revealed that he nearly quit the noontime show after its first season because he felt overworked while receiving a small talent fee.

“Kaya after nu’ng first season ng Showtime, nagpahinga ako noon, e. I was supposed to leave. Kasi hindi ako makaraket. Tapos mababa lang ang bayad ko, parang P5,000 a day,” Vice revealed.

He added that the pressure affected him physically and emotionally at the time.

Tapos parang ang daming ginagawa. Ang daming hinihiling sa akin. Parang nangarag ako. Pinimple ako nang malala. Tumaas yung hairline ko. Sobrang stressful niya,” he recalled.

Because of the situation, Vice said he even considered returning to comedy bars where he used to earn more.

“Balik na lang akong comedy bar, kasi mas malaki ang kinikita ko sa comedy bar,” he shared.

According to the TV personality, the management later convinced him to stay after improving the working conditions. He also revealed that his salary increased significantly afterward.

“Nabago na ang mga working conditions,” Vice said before joking that his salary “nadagdagan ng zero.”

The comedian added that he eventually realized his worth and learned the importance of proper communication and understanding in the workplace.

“Kailangan lang mag-usap. Give-and-take lang,” he stated.

Vice Ganda is a legendary Filipino comedian and television host who recently celebrated her 50th birthday, marking her transition into a "golden era" as the iconic "Unkabogable" star of It's Showtime. Continuing her dominance in the industry, she was recently honored as Best Actor at the 51st Metro Manila Film Festival for her dramatic turn in Call Me Mother and is currently preparing for a major film collaboration for the MMFF 2026.
