During the event, Iza acknowledged that her views on screen time changed after experiencing the realities of motherhood firsthand. She admitted that although she once intended to completely avoid exposing her daughter, Deia, to screens, unexpected situations eventually made that difficult.

Reflecting on her experience, she said, “At first, I was like, ‘Ayoko niyan. Hindi yan mag-se-screen time.’ But one day, you’ll find yourself in situations like this. To be honest, the reason she was drawn to sit over there was because my husband had already taken out his phone.”

At the event, Deia was also present and was seen happily spending time with her father, Iza's husband, Ben Wintle, while Iza participated in the program.

Iza went on to explain that every family's situation is different, which is why she chooses not to judge other parents for their decisions. She also shared that she considers herself fortunate to have been able to spend much of the early years of motherhood with her daughter, allowing her to be actively involved in Deia's daily life.

She said, “There are really moments na ito na ang best and wala po siyang judgement kasi kanya-kanya po tayo ng reality. I’m lucky because, during the early part of my motherhood journey, I was often there. I became my child’s entertainment system… It’s a privilege because some moms have to go to work after three months even earlier.”

Despite recognizing that screen time sometimes becomes unavoidable, Iza emphasized that she still makes every effort to keep it to a minimum, especially now that Deia is three and a half years old and becoming more curious about technology. She also jokingly teased her husband for often giving in to their daughter's requests.

She shared, “I tried my very best, but now she’s three and a half, and she’s learning. Especially when her dad is around, madaling mauto yung tatay — he just keeps saying yes to his daughter. Love you, beh.”

Iza also praised the concept behind "The Brilliant Hour," saying activities that encourage children to use their creativity and imagination can be effective alternatives to spending time in front of screens. She believes hands-on activities help keep children engaged while reducing their dependence on digital devices.

She explained, “Anything that they can do with their hands. It’s really helpful. Parang ginagawa ko pong last resort yung screen time.”

The actress reiterated that she understands why some parents rely on gadgets because every household has different circumstances. Still, she encouraged families to explore other options whenever possible before turning to screens.

She said, “Pero kung hindi pa naman po huli ang lahat at nagkaroon tayo ng ibang paraan para maiwasan na laging nakatutok sa screen ang ating mga anak, better.”

Iza also stressed that if children do spend time in front of a screen, parents should try to make it a shared experience instead of leaving them alone with a device. Although she clarified that she is not an expert, she believes conversations before, during, or after watching something can help support a child's learning and development.

She concluded, “I’m not an expert. But based on my understanding, di ba tayo, when we watched TV before, we would watch it together. Maybe it’s better if we talk to them about what they watched so that there is still some development happening during or after screen time.”

Iza's remarks reflected her balanced approach to parenting—recognizing the realities of modern family life while continuing to encourage meaningful alternatives to screen time whenever possible.
