Five suspected members of the Gapos Gang were arrested after allegedly robbing the home of a businessman in Marikina, where cash, jewelry, and a cellphone worth around P3.4 million were stolen. The incident was reported on GMA News' Unang Balita.

According to the Marikina Police, the suspects first gathered along Marcos Highway before heading to Barangay Concepcion Dos at around 1 a.m. CCTV footage allegedly showed the group putting on bonnets before walking toward the victim's house.

Investigators said the suspects pretended to be police officers, NBI agents, and SWAT personnel. They also allegedly presented a fake search warrant to convince the victims to let them inside.

Police said the suspects immediately cut the Wi-Fi connection linked to the house's CCTV system after entering the property. They then tied up the eight people inside using cable ties while allegedly pointing firearms at them.

Authorities said the victims were forced to open a vault containing cash. One of the victims was also allegedly forced to send money through an online wallet using a cellphone.

Police were able to respond after one of the victims managed to seek help. Officers arrived while the robbery was still ongoing, prompting the suspects to flee the scene.

Following a chase, five of the eight suspects were arrested. Recovered from them were a cable cutter, cable ties, duct tape, five cellphones, a luxury watch, four improvised firearms, a 9mm pistol, and several bonnets believed to have been used during the operation.

However, three suspects, including the alleged mastermind, managed to escape. Police said they took the vault containing cash, jewelry, and a cellphone with a total estimated value of P3.4 million.

The arrested suspects have yet to issue a statement to the media while being held at the Marikina Police Custodial Facility.

Based on their statements to police, the suspects allegedly traveled from Nueva Ecija to Marikina on July 8 to monitor their target. They reportedly claimed they were promised "Php20,000 each" if the operation became successful.

The suspects are expected to face charges of robbery with violence against or intimidation of persons, usurpation of authority, slight illegal detention, falsification of public documents, and illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Meanwhile, police said they will continue pursuing the three remaining suspects.

In other report, A jewelry shop in General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite lost more than P26 million worth of jewelry and cash after six armed men carried out a robbery that was caught on CCTV. The incident happened on Monday morning at a jewelry store in Barangay San Gabriel. Based on a report aired on Unang Balita, CCTV footage showed a man wearing a white shirt and a cap entering the shop alone. He appeared to look at the displayed jewelry and even spoke with one of the staff members as if he were a customer.

Meanwhile, a woman caught on CCTV allegedly stole P2,000 intended for medicine and a cellphone from separate homes in Navotas. The incidents were featured in GMA's Unang Balita through a report by Gabriel Gonzalez. According to the report, CCTV footage and accounts from several residents suggest that the same woman may be involved in a series of alleged thefts in the city. One of the reported incidents happened around 2 p.m. on Monday in Barangay Sipac Almacen.
