A teenager was rescued after surviving for roughly two days on top of an overturned boat in the cold waters of Alaska’s Bering Sea.

According to a report by GMA’s Unang Balita, a passing fishing vessel spotted the 15-year-old teenager and rescued him on September 7.
The boy had remained on top of the capsized boat while waiting for help in the middle of the frigid sea. The water temperature in the area was reportedly around 10 degrees Celsius.
The teenager had been fishing with his 35-year-old brother and their cousin when their small boat overturned. His two relatives did not survive, and their bodies were later recovered.

Based on a report from the Associated Press, the group left the village of Savoonga on St. Lawrence Island on September 4. They were expected to return early on September 6.
Their family reported them missing after they failed to come home as planned. The U.S. Coast Guard then launched a search using aircraft and helicopters.
One of its aircrews spotted the survivor kneeling on top of the overturned boat on the morning of September 7. The rescuers dropped a life raft and other emergency supplies before contacting a nearby fishing vessel.
The crew of The Northwest Explorer later reached the teenager. They threw him a rope and pulled the small boat closer before lifting him into a rescue basket.
Captain Adam White praised the boy after the difficult rescue.
“That’s one tough kid,” he said.
The teenager reportedly showed signs of hypothermia when he was taken aboard. The crew immediately wrapped him in blankets and used hot packs to help warm his body.
Family members became emotional when they heard through a radio transmission that he had been found alive. Their relief, however, was mixed with grief after learning about the deaths of his brother and cousin.
The older brother was described by a relative as a commercial fishing captain and an important provider in their community. Fishing remains a major part of daily life in the remote village of Savoonga, where residents often share their catch with relatives and neighbors.
Authorities had not yet announced the official cause of the accident at the time of the reports.

Recently, a mother and her 13-year-old son were injured after they were allegedly attacked with a bolo while sleeping inside their home in Barangay Paril, Cebu City. According to a report on GMA's Unang Balita, the incident happened after the 22-year-old suspect reportedly caused trouble during a dance in the barangay. Police said the suspect became involved in a disturbance at the gathering. The father of the young victim and husband of the woman reportedly approached him and asked what was happening.
Meanwhile, a man was shot dead outside a school in Barangay Prinza, Teresa, Rizal, on Thursday afternoon, triggering a police manhunt and leaving his family grieving. According to a report by GMA News' "Unang Balita," the victim was shot in the head at around 4 p.m. The gunman reportedly escaped immediately after the attack.
