A mother and her 13-year-old son were injured after they were allegedly attacked with a bolo while sleeping inside their home in Barangay Paril, Cebu City.

According to a report on GMA's Unang Balita, the incident happened after the 22-year-old suspect reportedly caused trouble during a dance in the barangay.

Police said the suspect became involved in a disturbance at the gathering. The father of the young victim and husband of the woman reportedly approached him and asked what was happening.

The suspect allegedly became angry after being confronted. Because of his behavior, he was eventually made to leave the dance.

Authorities said the man later went to the family's house. The father, who had confronted him earlier, was reportedly not the one he encountered there.

Instead, the suspect allegedly found the man's wife and their 13-year-old son sleeping inside the house.

Police said the two were then attacked with a bolo. The boy sustained an injury to his face, while his mother suffered injuries to her shoulder and arm. Both victims were taken to a hospital in Cebu City for treatment following the incident.

Police Capt. Leonyl Iren, chief of the responding police station, said the incident was being viewed as stemming from personal anger following what happened at the dance.

“Mahug nga personal nga kasuko, kay katong suspek man gud nagmaoy sulod sa diskohan, karon nakasumbag sya sa diskohan, naka-create siya og samok, mao to gipagawas siya sa nagdala didto,” the police official said.

He added that the father of the victims had only approached the suspect to ask whom he was having a problem with.

“Kining lalaki, which is maoy husband ug amahan sa mga biktima, gipangutana siya nga kinsay kontra nimo. Nasuko siya nga gipangutana. Mao na hinuon nabalingan sa iyahang kasuko,” Iren said.

Authorities immediately conducted an operation following the attack. The suspect was later arrested, while police also recovered the bolo that he allegedly used. Despite his arrest, the 22-year-old man denied committing the crime.

According to the Unang Balita report, a frustrated murder complaint has already been filed against him. The mother and her son, meanwhile, remained in the hospital as they recovered from their injuries.

In another report, Stephen Gelo Enriquez, a 38-year-old teacher, died after being shot outside his home in Barangay Poblacion, Sta. Maria, Bulacan. According to a Balitanghali report, the incident happened shortly after midnight on July 30. Police said the victim’s sister was inside their house when she heard a loud gunshot. She immediately went outside to check what had happened and found her brother seriously injured. The teacher was brought to a hospital for medical attention but later passed away.

Meanwhile, a man was shot dead outside a school in Barangay Prinza, Teresa, Rizal, on Thursday afternoon, triggering a police manhunt and leaving his family grieving. According to a report by GMA News' "Unang Balita," the victim was shot in the head at around 4 p.m. The gunman reportedly escaped immediately after the attack.
