According to a Balitanghali report, the incident happened shortly after midnight on July 30. Police said the victim’s sister was inside their house when she heard a loud gunshot.

She immediately went outside to check what had happened and found her brother seriously injured. The teacher was brought to a hospital for medical attention but later passed away.

The victim’s family declined to give a statement to the media following the incident. Authorities have also not announced a confirmed motive behind the shooting.

An initial police report stated that an unidentified man allegedly shot the teacher at around 12:30 a.m. The suspect, who was reportedly wearing a white cap, immediately fled the area after the incident.

Separate local reports identified the victim as Gelo, a resident of Barangay Poblacion. He was also described as a former barangay secretary. However, authorities have not confirmed whether his previous work had any connection to the crime.

The Sta. Maria Municipal Police Station launched a manhunt operation following the shooting. Investigators also started reviewing available CCTV recordings from the area to determine the suspect’s movements before and after the incident.

Police reportedly coordinated with the Bulacan Tactical Operations Center for the activation of Bulacan Shield Alpha. The measure was intended to strengthen the search for the person responsible.

Sta. Maria police chief PLTCOL Mark Louie Sigua assured the public that authorities were committed to solving the case.

“Tinitiyak namin sa publiko na ang Sta. Maria MPS ay lubos na nakatuon sa pagbigay ng hustisya,” he said, according to a local report citing police.

Sigua also encouraged anyone who witnessed the shooting or had useful information to coordinate with the nearest police station.

Investigators are still looking into possible leads as they work to establish the motive and identify the suspect. No arrest had been announced in the reports available at the time of writing.

The authorities have not released further information about the possible circumstances that led to the shooting. They also have not publicly named a person of interest.

In another report, an unidentified male suspect was arrested for allegedly threatening and intimidating a 45-year-old tenant in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan. According to Gabriel Gonzalez’s report on GMA’s Unang Balita, police found the suspect inside a convenience store along Quirino Highway. Video footage showed the authorities approaching the man and ordering him to lie on the floor. He was immediately placed under arrest.

According to a report on GMA News' Unang Balita, several men were seen arguing along the roadside before the confrontation escalated into a fistfight. Barangay tanods who were on patrol aboard a tricycle happened to pass by and immediately crossed the street to stop the commotion.
