Marlon Sabandal lost his life after he was shot while trying to stop a street brawl in Barangay Buting, Pasig City, in the early hours of July 12.

According to a report by EJ Gomez on GMA News' Unang Balita, several men were seen arguing along the roadside before the confrontation escalated into a fistfight. Barangay tanods who were on patrol aboard a tricycle happened to pass by and immediately crossed the street to stop the commotion.

As they tried to intervene, one of the men involved allegedly retrieved a firearm from a parked vehicle. He then handed the gun to another man, who opened fire.

Although the actual shooting was not captured on CCTV, Marlon was struck by the gunfire. The suspect reportedly fired several more shots during the incident. Another man was also allegedly attacked and repeatedly hit in the head with the firearm.

The barangay tanod managed to reach a parked barangay patrol vehicle before collapsing on the roadside. Minutes later, the gunman and another man fled the scene on a motorcycle.

Marlon was rushed to the hospital in a pickup truck by some of the individuals involved in the brawl. Doctors attempted to revive him, but he died less than an hour after the shooting.

According to barangay officials, one of the bullets hit a vital organ after exiting through his back. Another bullet struck his leg, with the slug reportedly remaining inside.

The police investigation found that the two groups involved in the fight were both from Taguig City and had allegedly been drinking before the incident. Authorities believe the altercation started after the groups exchanged hostile stares.

Marlon's grieving parents are now seeking justice for their son, who had served as a barangay tanod for 13 years.

"Napakabait na tao, naglilingkod lang. Siya lang ang aming sandigan mag-asawa dahil siya lang ang nagtatrabaho sa amin. Tapos pinatay mo pa siya. Sana mahuli ka at makulong ka."

Another family member also appealed to the suspects.

"Napakasakit ng nangyari kasi wala naman siyang ginawang ano kundi magtrabaho lang at pagsilbihan yung barangay namin. Kung sino-sino man kayo, sumuko na kayo. Makonsensya kayo."

Police have arrested two suspects believed to be members of the gunman's group. They declined to give a statement. Investigators are also examining the vehicle from which the firearm was allegedly taken, hoping it will help identify and locate the remaining suspects.

In other news, a tragic altercation in Bocaue resulted in the death of a 45-year-old woman after she was reportedly attacked by her younger half-brother. Law enforcement officials indicated that the conflict was triggered by a disagreement regarding a request for fare money. The victim suffered several fatal injuries during the encounter and was pronounced dead prior to her arrival at the local hospital. Following the incident, the 33-year-old suspect was taken into custody by police and is anticipated to be charged with murder.
