Antipolo City became the scene of a fatal drinking session after a 42-year-old sampagita vendor was allegedly stabbed and hit with a liquor bottle by two of his companions. The incident happened in Barangay Santa Cruz and was reported by GMA News' Unang Balita.

According to witnesses, the victim and the two suspects were drinking together on Sunday when an argument suddenly broke out. The heated exchange quickly escalated into violence.

Police immediately responded after receiving a report of a stabbing incident in the area. However, when responders arrived, the victim was already lying on the ground without signs of life.

"May tumawag po sa amin na meron nga daw pong stabbing incident doon sa Sitio Malaya Phase 5. Agad naman po kaming rumesponde. Pagdating po namin doon talagang no pulse, no breathing na po talaga yung pasyente," a responding police officer said in the report.

Investigators learned from witnesses that one suspect allegedly struck the victim in the head using a liquor bottle. The other suspect then allegedly stabbed him multiple times. The suspects reportedly fled the scene and were seen hiding near a creek before later surrendering to the police.

Based on their statements to investigators, the suspects claimed they became upset after the victim allegedly made remarks they did not like. They also alleged that the victim punched one of them, prompting him to grab a liquor bottle and hit the victim. The other suspect then allegedly joined the assault by stabbing him.

While in police custody, one of the suspects expressed remorse and apologized to the victim's loved ones.

"Humihingi po ako ng tawad sa kanila," the suspect said, referring to the victim's grieving family.

Meanwhile, the victim's wife, who also earns a living by selling sampagita, became emotional as she spoke about the hardship their family now faces.

"Siya po ang gumagawa sa bahay. Alam niya po na hirap na hirap na rin ako magtinda. May edad na po ako. Kawawa po ako sa nangyari," she said.

The two suspects are now detained at the Antipolo Police Community Precinct 2 and are facing h*micide charges in connection with the killing.

Following the incident, barangay officials announced that they would strengthen the implementation of local ordinances regulating drinking sessions.

"Alam po natin ang limitasyon natin kung hanggang anong oras lang po tayo. Hanggang 10:00 lang po at kung maaari 9:00 in the evening end na ang alak at end na ang kasiyahan," a barangay official said.

Meanwhile, a riding-in-tandem robbery attempt inside a subdivision in Barangay Sampagita, San Pedro, Laguna was prevented after barangay tanods noticed the suspects' suspicious movements through CCTV cameras. According to a report on GMA News' "Unang Balita," the incident happened at around 3 a.m. when two masked men on a motorcycle allegedly attempted to break into a house.
