In a heartbreaking twist of fate that has shattered a young family, a 25-year-old factory worker who moved to Laguna to seek a better future was tragically killed in a ruthless hit-and-run incident along Maharlika Highway in Barangay Makiling, Calamba City, early Tuesday morning, July 7, 2026.

The young father was merely attempting to cross a designated pedestrian lane to purchase his morning breakfast before heading out to his factory shift when a speeding utility van came out of nowhere, striking him violently and dragging him for several meters before fleeing the scene.
According to a report by GMA Network, security cameras in the immediate area captured the deeply agonizing final moments of the victim.
The footage explicitly shows the young man pausing responsibly in the middle of the road, looking to his right to yield to an oncoming truck.

However, as he waited for the vehicle to pass, a white utility van traveling at an extreme speed from the opposite direction materialized suddenly and struck him down, showing zero intention of slowing down or rendering assistance.
The impact of the collision threw the young laborer across the asphalt, leaving him motionless on the shoulder of the busy highway.
Emergency medical units rushed to the scene immediately after receiving a distress signal from a deeply concerned citizen, but the damage was already done.
Emmanuel Noprada, the head of rescue for Barangay Makiling, described the grim scene they encountered upon arrival.
“Nadatnan po ng mga kasama natin nasa gilid po siya ng kalsada. Nakadapa po. Wala na po siyang malay,” Noprada stated when recounting the immediate aftermath.
The sheer force of the speeding vehicle shocked eyewitnesses and local traffic enforcers who witnessed the immediate aftermath.
Noe Teberio, a volunteer traffic enforcer stationed in the area, detailed the terrifying spatial distance of the collision.
“Malayo ang tinalsikan. Mula dito sa gitna hanggang doon. Nakaladkad siya. Pagdating ko rito nakadapa na,” Teberio recalled, shaking his head at the absolute disregard for human life exhibited by the driver.
Teberio further explained that local traffic conditions along that specific stretch of the Maharlika Highway are notoriously hazardous due to systemic speeding.
“Ang bibilis ng sasakyan. Hindi nahinto pag hindi mo talaga hinaharang. Ang mga motor ang bilis,” the enforcer added, stressing that motorists frequently ignore the basic rights of pedestrians attempting to use the painted lanes.
The tragic loss has left the victim’s relatives in complete disbelief, completely upending the lives of those he left behind in his hometown.
The young man had traveled all the way from Bicol to secure stable factory employment in Laguna, striving to provide a decent life for his two children, who are now left without a father.
His sister, entirely overwhelmed by grief, issued an intense and emotional appeal to the public and the driver responsible.
“Gusto lamang namin mahuli yung gumawa nun. Sumuko na lang po at panagutan 'yung ginawa. Hindi namin akalain eh, sobrang bata pa,” she cried out, demanding legal accountability for the senseless loss.
Local authorities are currently conducting an extensive investigation and backtracking local security networks to identify the driver of the white utility van, which was tracked fleeing from the direction of Batangas toward Calamba City, potentially accessing the SLEX or Star Tollway networks.
General Investigator PSSG Ralph Rapinan stated that law enforcement will remain relentless until the vehicle is traced and the perpetrator faces criminal charges.
Meanwhile, the Calamba Local Government Unit and the victim's employer have extended financial support to the grieving family as his remains are transported back to Bicol, serving as a solemn reminder of the urgent need for stricter road safety compliance across national highways.
In other news, a call center professional operating a motorcycle lost his life following a severe plunge from an elevated overpass located in Pandacan, Manila. Preliminary findings indicate the motorist veered off course, colliding heavily with the structure's edge barriers and roadside concrete drainage. Emergency medical personnel transferred the operator to a nearby medical facility, where healthcare staff officially confirmed his passing. Local authorities noted that this identical overpass previously served as the location for a comparable fatal two-wheeler incident involving a courier worker back in April.
Still in other news, the remains of a past local official from Abuyog, Leyte, alongside his adult male child, were discovered inside a steep mountain pass following an armed seizure. Law enforcement teams successfully located and apprehended three major individuals of interest during a specialized operation in Pasay City. Ongoing documentation suggests the motive behind the criminal confinement and subsequent double fatality involves a bitter financial disagreement regarding an uncollected loan. Worried relatives contacted emergency dispatch teams immediately on the evening a group of armed perpetrators gained unauthorized access to their commercial storage facility.
