Veteran actress Jodi Sta. Maria officially scrapped her highly anticipated year-end showbiz hiatus after receiving a once-in-a-lifetime offer to star opposite the iconic Aga Muhlach.

The two powerhouse talents are set to bring the house down this coming Christmas as they headline "2nd Miracle in Cell No. 7," a major official entry for the 2026 Metro Manila Film Festival.

Prior to this massive announcement, Jodi was completely ready to pack her bags and rest for the remainder of the year.

Having already wrapped up three demanding films—namely "Midnight Girls," "Ganito, Ganyan, Ganoon," and "Edjop"—the actress felt she had successfully met her professional quota.

However, the emotional pitch for the prequel of the 2019 blockbuster phenomenon was simply too good to pass up.

According to a report by Bandera, which was also echoed in a broadcast segment by News5Everywhere the actress will be breathing life into the character of Angela, the wife of Lito and the mother of Yesha.

“This project came as a sweet surprise. Napag-usapan ng management ko na I think this year quota na ako sa projects na nagawa ko," Jodi explained during the recent story conference. "Rest na lang muna and then next year na lang. But this project came along, how do you say no to this?"
She enthusiastically added, "The script was sent over. Binasa ko, nag-pitch sila, I want to do this. Kaya sinabi ko, I am good for one more to end this year.”

On the other side of this thrilling pairing, Aga was absolutely over the moon, admitting that his new leading lady was the only person he envisioned for the crucial role.

“Nakita natin kung gaano kagaling ang kasama ko. Kaya nu’ng napag-usapan na gagawin ito at maging asawa at nanay ng anak ko, siya kaagad. Impossible hindi siya ang gumanap,” he proudly shared.

The upcoming film promises to dive deep into the untold chapters of Lito's life before his heartbreaking, wrongful imprisonment.

Fans will finally witness the beautiful family dynamic he shared with Angela, and the immense sacrifices he made for their beloved daughter, played by Xia Vigor.

It will also explore the aftermath of the first movie, checking in on the beloved inmates who captured the nation's heart.

Returning to the big screen are familiar faces including Joel Torre, Soliman Cruz, JC Santos, Mon Confiado, Jojit Lorenzo, and John Arcilla.

Helmed once again by director Nuel Naval and writer Mel Mendoza-Del Rosario, this holiday release is already shaping up to be a massive tearjerker.

As the December 25 premiere date approaches, audiences are undoubtedly waiting with bated breath to see this fresh, dramatic pairing bring a beloved cinematic universe back to vibrant life.
