He emphasized that the controversy played a crucial role in shaping the band’s journey.
“It’s an essential part of our history because ‘Pinoy Ako’ made us in a way na we had to experience the bad side of showbiz,” he explained.
Castro also reflected on how sudden fame impacted them early in their career.
“How it would affect people from Bulacan, who came from nowhere, who have no money, tapos biglang rose to fame,” he shared.
“And hindi namin kinaya yung fame and money. Nadiscaril kami sa goals namin when we were starting. And forgot to look back.”
According to him, the experience—including their disbandment in 2007—led to personal and professional growth.
“Marami akong natutunan dyan sa business. It changed us,” he stated.
Now with a clearer understanding of the industry, the band is taking control of its future. Castro revealed plans to re-record their past albums so they can fully own their masters.
“We were the first artist to re-record our first album and we might do the same for other albums as well,” he said.
Following a four-year hiatus, the group has returned with new music and is preparing for a European tour, marking another milestone in their evolving career.
Orange and Lemons is a renowned Filipino indie pop and rock band that gained massive mainstream success in the mid-2000s with their distinct OPM sound. They are best known for their chart-topping hits like "Hanggang Kailan" and the iconic reality show theme song "Pinoy Ako," which cemented their place in local pop culture. After a decade-long hiatus, the group reunited in 2017 to continue crafting their signature guitar-driven melodies and sophisticated lyrical arrangements.
In another report, Jayda Avanzado opened up about her past connection with Darren Espanto, revealing that they once shared a “mutual understanding” during their teenage years. Speaking on “TicTALK with Aster Amoyo,” she said they were very close as young artists but eventually drifted apart due to busy schedules and different paths. She clarified that there was no conflict between them and shared that she now looks back on their bond with gratitude and fond memories as she has already moved forward.
Meanwhile, Jayda Avanzado also addressed comparisons to Sarah Geronimo during her guesting on “TicTALK with Aster Amoyo,” admitting that it brings pressure. She expressed appreciation to her mentor Vic Del Rosario for believing in her abilities and supporting her journey. The singer emphasized her desire to build her own identity in the music industry. She also recalled a childhood memory when Vic first noticed her talent, which became a meaningful moment in her career.
