The Senate panel launched the investigation after reports of alleged abductions of a number of ‘sabungeros’ surfaced.

According to a GMA news report, thirty-four ‘sabungeros’ have been reported missing and were allegedly abducted on separate occasions.

In the Senate investigation that ensued, Charlie ‘Atong’ Ang’s name came up and linked to the sabungeros disappearance.

Atong, a ‘close friend’ of La Greta, has denied involvement in the alleged abduction.

Last year, Gretchen came out to deny that Atong Ang criticized presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos. Barretto released a statement after a fake Atong Ang quote surfaced online criticizing the former senator. The actress stated that Ang never meddles in politics and that the fake quote was spread by a business rival. Ang will release a statement later to make it clear that he did not criticize Marcos, according to Barretto.

La Greta and her relationship with Atong was also the topic of Nay Cristy Fermin in one of the episodes of Cristy Ferminute in September of 2021. The socialite and former actress trended because of the goods she sent to people in the showbiz industry. Nay Cristy then talked about it, saying that the rice being distributed by Gretchen’s team came from Atong Ang’s farms. The talk show host even commended the said rice and described it as, “maputi”, “malambot” and “masarap.”
