In the clip uploaded by ABS-CBN Entertainment, the couple appeared on “Magandang Buhay.” Yan was asked about Ryan’s revelation that he had courted Yeng years earlier.

Rather than react with jealousy, the musician said he understood what the television host had experienced.

“Hindi ako nagulat. Pero natuwa talaga ako, kasi nakaka-relate din ako doon eh. Kasi syempre Yeng Constantino rin, so I kinda went through the same situation na parang nanliliit ka,” Yan said.

He added that Ryan’s story helped him understand the host’s feelings.

“So naka-empathize ako kay Ryan na parang, ‘Bro, I know what you're feeling. Alam ko 'yung naramdaman mo.’ Na-touch din ako sa story ni Ryan doon,” he shared.

Yan then recalled his own uncertainty when he and Yeng started getting to know each other. The musician admitted that he was also intimidated by her popularity.

“Natatakot kasi ako noon eh. Kasi syempre, Yeng Constantino eh. Tapos sino ba naman si Yan Asuncion? I didn't know what to expect nung first date namin,” he explained.

According to him, the singer seemed cautious during their early interactions. He remembered her asking why he had invited her and why they were meeting for coffee.

Yan said that Yeng came across as strong because she initially had her guard up. His experience made it easier for him to relate to Ryan instead of judging what happened between them.

The video resurfaced after Yeng and Ryan’s past became a topic again. During the second night of her recent “Biyaheng Bente: 20th Anniversary Concert,” the singer admitted that she had a big crush on Ryan before.

Ryan attended the concert with Vice Ganda. He later became emotional on “It’s Showtime” while looking back on their story and wondering if he would meet someone who would love him as Yeng once did.

Their missed romantic chance was first publicly discussed on the noontime program in January 2022. Ryan said he stopped pursuing Yeng because he believed he had no chance with her.

Yeng, meanwhile, thought he had grown tired of waiting. Their candid exchange helped both of them understand how fear and assumptions had prevented them from taking their connection further.

In another 2022 interview, the singer said she had never told Yan about Ryan because it had slipped her mind. She stressed that her husband understood the situation and trusted her.

“Naintindihan niya. Hindi naman seloso ang asawa ko, e. Sobrang trust niya talaga ako,” Yeng said.

Yeng and Yan have been married since February 14, 2015. The resurfaced interview showed that he viewed the old story with empathy rather than jealousy.
