Recently, the beauty queen posted a stirring message on her Instagram. She began by sharing her thoughts on the use of app filters.

Beauty filters are functions from camera and video apps that alter the original image of the user into something more pleasing as per public's perception of what is beautiful. Beauty filters can be used to smooth out skin, make the eyes bigger, make the face look slimmer and even add on makeup.

Catriona explained that it is enjoyable to use filters as a way of expressing ourselves just like playing with makeup. However, she started to realize that she was comparing reality with filtered images which wasn't healthy.

She iterated that beauty is constantly being molded by standards we see in media and other people's opinions when it should be defined by the individual alone. She compared this to a quote on how people still know that the moon and stars are still beautiful despite not being able to properly capture its image on camera.

She ended her post with a message to her audience encouraging self-love and self-appreciation.

"Filters are so much fun, and just like makeup - allow us to express ourselves here online. BUT there are so many times I've scrolled through social media not taking into account that I'm subconsciously comparing my reality with a filter."
"Our definition of beauty is constantly being defined by standards, what we see in the media and what we're told. But I'm a believer that your beauty should be defined by YOU."
"I read a quote online recently about how, when we take photos of the moon and stars of the night sky using a camera and it doesn't turn out, we easily recognize that the sky is really beautiful in reality, but it's the camera that's not able to capture it.
What if we accepted that our beauty isn't meant to be experienced through a lens?"
