However, the aggressive confrontation took a dramatic turn that the van's occupants certainly did not anticipate—the quiet cyclist riding in the designated bike lane was actually a trained military soldier and mixed martial arts (MMA) instructor.
The incident flared up when an internet service provider utility van repeatedly honked at the cyclist navigating his lane.
The confrontation escalated rapidly after the van driver and the cyclist stopped to argue, prompting two additional passengers to step out of the vehicle and confront the solitary rider.

According to an eyewitness, April Escobar, both sides quickly lost their composure during the sudden road standoff.
"Binusinahan ng driver yung nagbibisikleta…nasa bike lane naman yung nagba-bike…Parehas mainit yung ulo nila," Escobar recalled, describing the rapid escalation that triggered the melee.
Sensing immediate danger as the men approached him, the soldier relied on his martial arts training to defend himself, executing swift preemptive strikes to neutralize the perceived threat.
"Pagharap ko, alam ko naman yung instinct na maibigay nila. Kailangan i-protect ko ang sarili ko. So inunahan ko na. Pero di siya una na malakas, parang friendly kicks lang siya. Ayun doon nag umpisa," the cyclist later shared.
The resulting scuffle was captured on video, showing the cyclist exchanging strikes with the men in blue uniforms before bystanders intervened.

Land Transportation Office (LTO) Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao firmly condemned the violent outburst on public roads, stating, "Bawal yung road rage, pagbaba ng sasakyan makikipag-away, makikipagbugbugan."
Consequently, the LTO slapped the van driver with a 90-day license suspension alongside a formal show-cause order against the vehicle's registered owner.
