An 18-year-old man was stabbed in Barangay 21, Caloocan after an alleged attempt to steal his cellphone on Saturday night.

According to a report by Gabriel Gonzalez on GMA News' Unang Balita, the victim had just come from the gym with a friend when they encountered the suspect along a dark portion of C3.

Police said the suspect approached the two and asked what they were doing in the area. The pair reportedly ignored him, after which the suspect allegedly became angry.
"Nagtanong yung suspect sa kanila kung anong ginagawa nila doon. Nung ignore nung dalawa kaya nagkaroon na, nagalit itong suspect," police said in the report.
Authorities said the suspect then allegedly tried to take the cellphones of the victim and his companion.
When the attempt failed, the victim was stabbed.
Despite his injuries, the 18-year-old was still able to return to his home before he was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
According to the report, he sustained stab wounds to his hand and side. He remained under observation as doctors continued to monitor his condition.
A 23-year-old sibling of the victim, identified in the report as alias Jackie, expressed anger over what happened to the young man.
"Wala pong patawad at wala pong pasensya na tinatanggap yung pamilya namin sa ginawa niya sa kapatid ko," Jackie said.
The family also shared their concern about the victim's condition. Jackie said doctors were still considering whether another procedure would be needed depending on his recovery.
Apart from worrying about his health, the family also expressed fear for their safety following the incident.
"Kinakatakot po namin na baka po balikan po yung pamilya namin, baka pupuntahan kami or saktan pa po yung pamilya namin," Jackie added.
Police eventually tracked down and arrested the suspect early Monday.
Authorities also recovered a knife from him, which police said was used in the attack.
The suspect was detained at the Caloocan City Police Station and is set to face complaints for attempted robbery and frustrated hόmicide.
As of the Unang Balita report, the suspect had not yet given a statement despite efforts by the news team to get his side.
Meanwhile, the victim continued to receive medical attention following the attack.
