“’Pag kinasal kayo, would you want your parents to be there?” Karen asked.

Carlos gave a direct answer, explaining that he sees a wedding primarily as a celebration of the couple’s relationship and therefore would rather keep the occasion focused on himself and Chloe.

“Kasal po namin yun and relationship po namin yun and mas pipiliin kong kami na lang,” Carlos said.

The gymnast explained that he wants the occasion to remain centered on love and happiness rather than potentially bringing back painful memories or unresolved issues.

“Ayaw ko din masira yung moment namin para saming dapat dalawa,” he said.

Carlos added that he does not want the wedding to become “mamantsahan” by the issues that have affected his relationship with his parents over the years. He acknowledged that there have already been things done within the family that he chose to forgive.

“Ayaw ko yun mamantsahan pa, and madami na din silang ginawa na pinatawad ko na,” he said.

For Carlos, forgiveness does not necessarily mean returning to the same kind of relationship or allowing past conflicts to become part of every major milestone in his life. He indicated that, after forgiving what happened, he would prefer to draw a boundary and move forward.

“And hanggang dun na lang din po,” Carlos explained.

He then reiterated that he wants his wedding, if and when it happens, to be filled with positive emotions and centered on the relationship he shares with Chloe.

“So, hindi po. Gusto ko samin lang po yun and I really wanted to be really full of love and joy kapag nangyari po yun,” he said.

Carlos has been involved in a highly publicized family rift with his parents for several years. The disagreements have become a recurring subject of public discussion, particularly because Carlos’ relationship with Chloe has also been affected by tensions involving his family.

Chloe San Jose has likewise had a strained relationship with Carlos’ parents, making her connection to the family dispute another prominent part of the controversy surrounding the couple. Carlos has nonetheless continued his relationship with Chloe, and the two have remained publicly supportive of each other.

At the same time, Carlos’ relationship with his siblings has been described differently. Despite his rift with his parents, he remains on good terms with his siblings.
