A 23-year-old man was arrested after allegedly stealing a firearm from the home of a retired judge in Pandacan, Manila.

A pair of slippers left inside the property helped authorities identify and locate the suspect.
According to a report by Jomer Apresto on GMA’s Unang Balita, the man entered the gate of the house in Barangay 864 at around 8 p.m. on Sunday.
More than 30 minutes later, CCTV footage showed him leaving the property in a hurry. His face was covered, and he was no longer wearing slippers.

The suspect was also seen running along Florida Street.
Authorities said the retired judge was not at home when the incident happened. However, the judge’s granddaughter and a household helper were reportedly inside the property.
The granddaughter managed to hide inside a bathroom and call for help.
Investigators learned that the intruder allegedly passed through an abandoned house beside the victim’s property. From there, he reached the terrace and damaged a window to enter the second floor.
The man allegedly took a customized revolver worth approximately ₱80,000.
Barangay officials said the slippers left at the house matched the footwear worn by the suspect in earlier CCTV footage. Although he was not a resident of the area, he had reportedly stayed in the abandoned property beside the victim’s home.
Local officials also claimed that the man had previously been linked to several theft incidents in their area.
Police later tracked him down during a follow-up operation on Monday. He was reportedly sleeping inside a house when authorities arrived.
“Naabutan namin siya na natutulog na, nagpapahinga. Hindi na po siya nakalaban,” a police officer said in the report.
The officers then informed the suspect of his rights before taking him into custody.
The stolen revolver was recovered from him. Authorities expressed concern that the firearm could have been used in another crime if it had not been found.
The suspect admitted what he had done and asked the victim for forgiveness.
“Papatawarin n’yo po ako. Sana po makalaya po ako rito. Hindi ko na po mauulit ’yung nangyari po na ’yon,” he said.
He also claimed that another person helped him commit the crime by opening the window. The man urged his alleged companion to surrender and face responsibility.
However, authorities said the CCTV recordings showed only one person entering and leaving the house. Investigators were continuing to examine his claim about a possible accomplice.
The suspect underwent inquest proceedings and is now facing the appropriate complaint over the incident.

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old man was stabbed in Barangay 21, Caloocan after an alleged attempt to steal his cellphone on Saturday night. According to a report by Gabriel Gonzalez on GMA News' Unang Balita, the victim had just come from the gym with a friend when they encountered the suspect along a dark portion of C3.
