According to a GMA Regional TV report aired on Saksi, the woman allegedly entered the ward during the early hours, when the infant’s parents and other people nearby were sleeping. She then took advantage of the quiet situation to carry the child away.

A police official said someone had seen the woman at the hospital earlier that night. However, those who noticed her apparently thought she was related to the baby because she had spoken with people in the area and appeared comfortable around them.

The report said the suspect wrapped the newborn in a blanket before placing the child inside an eco bag. Video taken outside the hospital showed her boarding a tricycle that was already waiting nearby.

Authorities quickly launched a follow-up operation after the baby was discovered missing. Their search led them to Magalang, Pampanga, where the female suspect was located. Police recovered the infant safely and later returned the baby to the relieved parents.

During questioning, the woman claimed that she was dealing with depression after losing her own child. She offered this explanation when asked why she had taken the newborn.

“Wala lang po. Depress lang po ako. Nawala po ’yung anak,” she said.

Police said they were looking into her statement that she wanted to replace the child she had lost. Her account remains part of the investigation and does not yet represent a final finding on the motive.
