A 40-year-old jeepney barker was taken to a hospital after he was allegedly stabbed by his friend in Barangay Commonwealth, Quezon City.

According to a report by James Agustin on GMA's Unang Balita, the incident happened at around 8 p.m. The victim suffered a stab wound on his left arm and was still recovering following the incident.

Police later arrested the 39-year-old suspect during a follow-up operation in Fairview. Based on the initial investigation, the victim and the suspect had reportedly been drinking together before the stabbing happened.

Authorities said the suspect allegedly went to the area where the victim worked as a jeepney barker because he wanted to speak with him. The victim was then reportedly brought to a darker portion of the road, where the alleged stabbing took place.

Police also recovered the knife believed to have been used during the incident. Investigators are looking into jealousy as a possible motive. According to police, the victim had allegedly been exchanging text messages with a woman whom the suspect was also interested in.

A police investigator explained that the information emerged as authorities looked into what may have led to the confrontation. Before the stabbing, the suspect had also reportedly asked the victim to leave the place where they were both staying.

However, the suspect strongly denied intentionally stabbing his friend.

“Hindi ko sinaksak ’yon. May hawak siyang kutsilyo. Dulas lang ho siya,” he said in the Unang Balita report.

He claimed that the victim was already holding the knife and accidentally got hurt after slipping.

The suspect also offered another reason for confronting his friend. He alleged that the victim had taught his child how to steal, prompting him to confront the man.

When asked about jealousy as the possible motive mentioned by investigators, the suspect also denied the allegation.

“Hindi totoo ’yun,” he said.

Police are continuing their investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine what exactly happened before the victim was wounded.

The suspect is facing a complaint for frustrated murder in connection with the incident.

In another report, Stephen Gelo Enriquez, a 38-year-old teacher, died after being shot outside his home in Barangay Poblacion, Sta. Maria, Bulacan. According to a Balitanghali report, the incident happened shortly after midnight on July 30. Police said the victim’s sister was inside their house when she heard a loud gunshot. She immediately went outside to check what had happened and found her brother seriously injured. The teacher was brought to a hospital for medical attention but later passed away.

Meanwhile, a man was shot dead outside a school in Barangay Prinza, Teresa, Rizal, on Thursday afternoon, triggering a police manhunt and leaving his family grieving. According to a report by GMA News' "Unang Balita," the victim was shot in the head at around 4 p.m. The gunman reportedly escaped immediately after the attack.
