The accident took place on General Luna Avenue on Thursday and was captured by CCTV footage featured in a report by Vonne Aquino on "24 Oras Weekend" on Saturday.
Video showed the child using the pedestrian lane while a passenger jeep stopped to allow the youngster to cross. Moments later, a van continued moving and struck the victim despite the child being within the designated crossing area.
Fortunately, a hospital was located directly across the street, allowing responders to bring the child for immediate medical attention.

According to police investigators, the van overtook the stopped jeep and failed to notice the child crossing the road.
"Magkasunod kasi itong SUV at saka passenger jeep. 'Yun nasagasaan niya itong bata," says Police Lieutenant Colonel Armel Tabaog, chief of the San Mateo Municipal Police Station.
Police said the student suffered abrasions, while the driver shouldered the victim's hospital expenses.
Meanwhile, the LTO issued a show-cause order and imposed a 90-day preventive suspension on the driver's license while the case is under investigation.
He also stressed that any settlement reached with the victim would not affect the government's separate administrative proceedings.
"Kasalukuyan ho naka-alarm na 'yung sasakyan, mabigat po 'yan ma’am kasi reckless 'yan, mabigat 'yung kaniyang parusa diyan," says Lacanilao.
The LTO said the driver's license could face a longer suspension or even revocation, depending on the findings of the agency's investigation.
