Rommel discussed the issue during his appearance on the latest episode of Ogie Diaz Inspires on Sunday, September 13. The conversation touched on Robin’s frequent appearances in viral clips and the backlash he receives over statements made during Senate sessions and hearings.

Robin has often become the subject of online ridicule because of some of his remarks in public proceedings. When Rommel was asked how he responds to people who call his brother “bobo” and use other insulting words against him, the actor recalled the response he previously gave.

He then explained that he feels saddened by the way people sometimes judge others based on their most recent actions instead of looking at the bigger picture.

“Sa panahon ngayon, nalulungkot nga ako...nandito na tayo sa panahon na kahit maganda na ang ginagawa ng tao...laging ang tinitingnan ay ang kamakailan. O, lalagyan ng kapangitan 'yung kagandahang ginagawa ng tao.”

Rommel’s comments came after he himself faced intense criticism over his remarks involving Angel Locsin and the flood control issue. He previously shared what he described as a “real talk” about Locsin’s silence on the controversy while Robin had been criticized for acknowledging that he was once a communist.

The actor admitted that the backlash he received was particularly painful because he considers Locsin and her husband, Neil Arce, his friends.

“First time kong ma-bash nang ma-bash nang gano’n kalupit. E, kaibigan ko naman si Ate Angel, e. Kahit si Neil Arce,” Rommel said.

The experience also gave him a deeper perspective on what his brother has been dealing with amid repeated public criticism.

Rommel became visibly emotional while discussing Robin, emphasizing that he knows his younger brother personally and believes he knows his true character beyond the controversies surrounding him.

“Ako, sumasama ang loob ko. Naluha na nga ako niyan sa isang interview. Siyempre nakakabatang kapatid ko 'yan. Kilala ko 'yan; anong totoong ugali. Ta's makakarinig ka ng mga gano'n. Oh, my God!"

For Rommel, the criticism against Robin is not merely something he sees online or in the news. As an older brother, he said the harsh words directed at the senator affect him deeply.

In another report, Mocha Uson addressed the rumors that once linked her to Sen. Robin Padilla during an interview with journalist Susan Enriquez. She explained that the speculation stemmed from an online blind item, which eventually fueled talk about the two. Mocha said the issue has since become something she and Robin can simply laugh about, despite the attention it received when the rumors first circulated.

He also joked that he does not have the famous “stone,” saying Darna might be furious if she mistook him for its owner. Playing along with the rumors, Robin humorously pointed out that his name is “Carding Sungkit,” not “Ding,” putting his own comedic spin on the issue.
