In the Philippines, determining who is at fault when a company accidentally catches fire depends on the investigation done by the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and other authorities.
If the fire was caused by faulty wiring, unsafe equipment, poor maintenance, or violation of fire safety rules, the company may be held liable for negligence.
If the company failed to follow the Fire Code of the Philippines (RA 9514)—such as not having fire exits, extinguishers, alarms, or regular fire drills—they can be penalized and held responsible.
If someone inside the company started the fire, even accidentally but through carelessness, the person or the company may be held criminally and civilly liable.
If the company had proper permits and passed inspections but the fire still occurred due to an unforeseeable cause, it may be considered an accident with limited liability.
In any case, the BFP conducts a thorough investigation to determine the origin, cause, and any lapses in fire safety compliance before assigning fault or responsibility.
