Kapamilya actor JC Alcantara revealed that he nearly walked away from showbiz last year after facing personal and professional challenges that pushed him to consider working abroad.

During an interview with ABS-CBN, JC opened up about reaching a point where he was ready to stop acting altogether. He admitted that he had already begun contacting friends overseas as he considered starting a different life outside the Philippine entertainment industry.
“May times na sumuko na ako last year. Nasa point na ako na tigil ko na ‘to,” JC said.
“Nasa point na ako na mag-work na ako abroad and nag-contact ko na ‘yung mga friends ko doon,” he added.

However, JC decided to stay in the Philippines after ABS-CBN and director Ivan Andrew Payawal offered him a role in the iWant original series “Miss Behave.” The opportunity allowed him to portray Cole Javier while also helping him rebuild his confidence and renew his passion for acting.
JC recalled that his audition for the series came at a particularly difficult time in his life. He admitted that he felt unable to give his best performance during the audition, but Payawal saw something in him that made the director willing to give him another chance.
“May direktor na si Direk Ivan na naniwala sa akin, na nagbigay sa akin ng opportunity,” JC shared.
“Kasi that time, nu’ng audition, wala akong naibigay na acting, wala akong as JC Alcantara na gustong umarte,” he continued.
JC said he was unable to show what he could do during that particular moment, yet Payawal recognized his potential. The actor also remembered a conversation they had shortly after the audition at ABS-CBN.
“And that time na parang after ng audition namin, 20 minutes ganu’n, naka-stay pa ako noon sa audition namin dito sa ABS-CBN and nilapitan niya ako and sabi niya, ‘JC, what happened? Sorry kung lumapit ako sa ‘yo pero kailangan kong lumapit sa ‘yo kasi meron akong nakikitang something wrong’, at totoo naman that time.”
JC eventually opened up to the director about what he had been going through during that difficult period. According to the actor, Payawal's belief in him helped change his perspective and reminded him not to waste the time and opportunity he still had.
“So, nagkuwento ako about nu’ng nangyayari sa akin nung last year na iyon, and Direk Ivan believed in me, na kaya ko pa, na huwag mong sayangin ‘yung time na ‘yun,” he said.
The director then asked JC to return for the final casting, giving him another opportunity to prove himself.
“And ‘yun, after nu’n, pinabalik niya ako, ‘Sige, kita tayo sa final casting. Like, kailangan kita makita ulit na okay ka,’” he recalled.
The experience became a turning point for JC. He promised himself that he would give everything he had to acting because he still loved the profession and wanted to continue improving.
“At nag-promise ako na gagawin ko lahat para rito. And sabi ko sa sarili ko na, ‘Kailangan, kung mahal ko ‘yung trabaho ko.’ Mahal ko ‘tong acting and gusto kong mag-improve. Gusto ko pang matutunan lahat.”
JC expressed gratitude to the people who continued to believe in his abilities, particularly Payawal, whom he credited for choosing him for “Miss Behave.”
“And ‘yun, nagpapasalamat ako sa nagtiwala sa akin dito. Kaya thankful ako kay Direk Ivan for choosing me as part ng Miss Behave,” he said.
JC is also part of the cast of “Saving Cherry,” alongside Barbie Forteza. He previously appeared in “Miss Behave” with Alexa Ilacad, Xyriel Manabat, Reign Parani, Rans Rifol, and Andi Abaya.
JC Alcantara is a Filipino actor, model, and brand endorser who first gained widespread attention starring in the viral 2017 "Kwentong Jollibee: Apo" commercial. He later established himself as a rising lead actor after playing Mico Ramos in the hit web series Hello Stranger.
In another report, JC Alcantara opened up about stepping into a comedy role that is unlike the characters he has portrayed before in “Saving Cherry.” He described his character Josh as a major departure from his previous work and also recalled an intense experience he went through after a past relationship ended.
Meanwhile, Barbie Forteza revealed that romance is not currently among her priorities as she chooses to spend more time focusing on herself. The actress explained that she approaches dating with marriage as the ultimate goal and has no plans to entertain casual relationships.
