JC Alcantara is stepping into unfamiliar territory with his upcoming film Saving Cherry, taking on a comedy role that he says is significantly different from his previous characters.

The 26-year-old actor made the revelation during the film’s grand media conference at Gateway Cinema in Quezon City earlier this month. He shared that he plays a character named Josh, although he was not permitted to disclose too many details about the role.
“My name is Josh dito and surprise yung character ko. Yun yung aabangan niyo (laughs).
For JC, the Regal Films project is also a new challenge because it marks his first comedy movie. He admitted that portraying the character was not easy, particularly because he wanted to make sure he could bring something fresh to the role.

“Parang first comedy ko ata ito. Sobrang hirap. Iba kasi ‘yung character ko eh. So sobrang na-challenge ako.
While Saving Cherry centers on love and relationships, the subject also prompted JC to look back on his own past. Asked about the craziest thing he had done for love after a previous breakup, the actor made an unusually candid admission.
Despite that difficult period, he said he eventually managed to move forward.
Meanwhile, the actor is also enjoying working with familiar and new faces in Saving Cherry. He reunites with Barbie Forteza, whom he previously worked with in the psychological horror movie P77 (Penthouse 77).
JC said his previous experience with Barbie made him feel more comfortable on the new project. He particularly appreciated the way she allows her fellow actors to shine alongside her.
Ibibigay niya sayo ‘yung character mo, ‘yung kabatuhan mo. Hindi puwedeng siya lang ‘yung aangat. Basta lahat tayo dito pantay-pantay. ‘Yun ‘yung na-appreciate ko kay Barbie since before pa sa P77. Kaya sobrang saya ko ulit maka-work siya,” he added.
JC also formed a friendship with Sassa Gurl during their time together on the project. He recalled accompanying her after a taping session and spending time getting to know her better.
Sobrang saya,” he shared.
Saving Cherry also stars Mika Salamanca, Mikee Quintos, AC Bonifacio, Sassa Gurl, and Khalil Ramos. Directed by Ivan Andrew Payawal and produced by Regal Films, the movie is set to open exclusively in cinemas nationwide on September 2, 2026.
JC Alcantara is a Filipino actor and former commercial model who gained widespread popularity for his lead role as Mico in the hit 2020 boys' love (BL) series Hello, Stranger. Managed under Star Magic, he has since expanded his acting career across various television shows and films, including project roles in Halik, P77, and Saving Cherry.
In another report, Barbie Forteza made a lighthearted remark about wanting to have her dream wedding in Las Vegas so that divorce would supposedly be an option. The comment came during the media conference for “Saving Cherry,” where talent manager and lawyer Atty. Joji Alonso offered a legal clarification about divorce obtained abroad.
Meanwhile, Sassa Gurl publicly expressed regret over a joke she made about AC Bonifacio during the same “Saving Cherry” media conference. She acknowledged that her remarks crossed a line and took responsibility for making AC uncomfortable during the event.
