Content creator-turned-actress Sassa Gurl has publicly apologized after facing widespread criticism over a joke she made involving fellow actress AC Bonifacio during the grand media conference for the upcoming film Saving Cherry.

The issue stemmed from a lighthearted exchange at the event after AC shared how excited she was to work with several Kapuso artists, including Barbie Forteza, Mikee Quintos, and Mika Salamanca. She explained that the experience felt different because she had mostly worked with Kapamilya artists throughout her career.
“It's also my first time working with Ate Barbie—actually kayong lahat, kasi I'm always surrounded by Kapamilyas.”

While AC was explaining her experience, Sassa interrupted with a remark that immediately caught everyone's attention.
“Naloka ka sa mga Kapuso, 'no… walang plastikan, 'no?”
The comment surprised several people at the venue, prompting laughter from some of the cast members. However, AC immediately clarified that she had no intention of criticizing her home network and expressed her appreciation for the people behind her career.
“Uy, hoy, wala akong sinasabi. I love my network. To my Star Magic family, I love you.”
Sassa also clarified during the media conference that her statement was only meant as a joke. The conversation then continued as AC praised the professionalism of her co-stars, particularly Barbie Forteza, and shared that she learned a great deal from collaborating with artists from another network.
Despite the clarification, many social media users criticized Sassa, saying her joke unnecessarily placed AC in a vulnerable position and could have created the impression that the actress had privately spoken negatively about her fellow Kapamilya artists.
Following the online backlash, Sassa posted a public apology on X on the evening of August 5, acknowledging that her humor crossed the line.
“Saw all your tweets and messages, kinda deserv ko naman talaga ang mabunot, as a qúeer person who represents the baklang kanal girlies, i realized na dapat nga naman talaga i lugar ang kakanalan.”
She added that authenticity should never become an excuse for being tactless.
“I standby being real but hindi excuse ito be taklesa. Sa nasabi ko i take accountability for that, thank you sa mga nagcall out, another opportunity for me to grow as a new artist in showbiz, at syempre to my sister ms. Ac sorry ma for putting you into a very vulnerable situation.”
AC accepted the apology by sharing Sassa's post and writing:
“all love guys !!”
Sassa later replied warmly:
“Labyu!!! Next interview sweet gurl ako HUMANDA.”
As of writing, neither ABS-CBN nor Star Magic has released an official statement regarding the incident.
