Kapuso actor Ruru Madrid has opened up about the sacrifices he has made in his career, revealing that his religious beliefs have led him to decline several projects over the years.

During his guest appearance on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, the actor candidly discussed how being a member of Iglesia Ni Cristo has influenced some of the professional decisions he has made throughout his career.
“Totoo yun marami ng mga bagay na natanggihan ko just because of my faith,” he revealed.
According to Ruru, there are certain endorsements and projects that do not align with the teachings of his church. He specifically mentioned promotions involving alcohol and gàmbling, explaining that these are opportunities he chooses not to accept because of his beliefs.

The actor admitted that balancing his profession with his faith can sometimes be challenging, especially since many people, including fellow church members, look up to him.
“I’m gonna be honest, Tito Boy. Of course, challenging siya sa pagiging isang aktor. I mean, siyempre, bilang isang aktor hindi ka lang naman umaarte–– marami rin tao na nag loolook up sa'yo, nagsisilbing inspirasyon ka, at marami sa mga tagahanga ko ay miyembro ng Iglesia Ni Cristo,” he expressed.
“Siyempre, hindi naman sa lahat ng pagkakataon na mauunawaan nila kung ano yung ginagawa namin bilang isang aktor,” he added.
Ruru explained that before accepting certain projects, he usually discusses the material with the production team to identify scenes or elements that may need consideration. He also shared that he sometimes submits a written explanation, or salaysay, to seek approval from his church when necessary.
“Ang ginagawa ko na lang bago pa namin gawin ang isang proyekto, mag-uusap-usap kami ng production, mag-uusap-usap kami ng directors kung ano yung mga hangga’t maaari, maiwasan. Pero I wouldn’t say limitasyon siya kasi puwede naman yun ipagpaalam,” he explained.
As an example, Ruru cited his upcoming film Los Salvajes Bravos, where he portrays an Igorot taken to Spain during the 1800s. He said the role did not present any conflict because the story takes place before the establishment of Iglesia Ni Cristo.
“Ang story po niya, Tito Boy, kami po yung mga dinala na mga Pilipino o mga Igorot na dinala po sa Spain during the 1800s. During that time wala pa naman Iglesia Ni Cristo, so kumbaga, walang magiging problema doon kasi parang ang pinoportray ko na role ay isang role na wala pang Iglesia [Ni Cristo] that time,” he said.
When asked about doing romantic scenes, Ruru clarified that he no longer seeks permission for those because his church already understands the nature of his profession.
“Actually, yung mga ganyan eksena hindi ko na siya usually pinagpapaalam dahil parang nakikita naman nila lagi ko siyang ginagawa at bilang isang aktor, ayoko din talaga malimitahan yung sarili ko lalo pa at right now, I’m in the era of expansion and gusto kong mag-explore kung ano pa yung kakayanan ko bilang isang aktor,” he ended.
Ruru Madrid is a prominent Filipino actor, host, and model who rose to frame after competing on Protégé and went on to star in major television series such as Encantadia, Lolong, and Black Rider. Beyond his action and drama roles, he forms one of Philippine entertainment's most popular power couples alongside his longtime partner, actress Bianca Umali.
In another report, Ruru Madrid explained why he believes people who have cheated can still genuinely change. The actor admitted that he was unfaithful when he was 20 years old and said he takes full responsibility for that mistake. Ruru shared that Bianca Umali chose to forgive him after they spent eight months apart before eventually reconciling. He emphasized that cheating is always a personal choice and added that Bianca's love continues to inspire him to remain faithful and avoid temptation.
Meanwhile, Ruru Madrid touched the hearts of many after buying all the snacks from an elderly vendor near the set of their Cinemalaya 2026 project in Tanay, Rizal. The vendor became emotional and said she cried because of the actor's kindness. Ruru comforted the woman and even promised to look for her again the next time they returned to the area. His thoughtful gesture earned praise from fans and netizens, who commended him for being humble and genuine.
