During his interview on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” on Tuesday, August 4, Ruru opened up about cheating on his longtime girlfriend, Bianca Umali, in the past. The actor, who described himself as a “loyal” lover, acknowledged that making a mistake does not necessarily mean a person is incapable of changing.

For Ruru, people should not be defined forever by a mistake they have made, as he believes anyone can choose to become a better person. He also connected this belief to his faith and the importance of forgiveness.

“Kahit naman sinong tao, puwedeng magbago. Anumang klaseng pagkakamali 'yan, puwede pa rin magbago ang tao. Kasi ang Diyos nga natin, marunong magpatawad.”

The actor also expressed his gratitude to Bianca for forgiving him despite the mistake he made during their relationship. Ruru recalled that he was 20 years old when he cheated, but he made it clear that being young was not an excuse for what he did.

“'Yun 'yung pinagpapasalamat ko kay Bianca, na kahit na nagkamali ako during that time; I was 20 years old, at hindi ko naman sinasabi na dahilan na 'yung pagkabata ko sa ginawa kong pagkakamali.”

Ruru described that period as a “blessing in disguise” because it allowed him to recognize Bianca's value in his life. After the cheating incident, the couple went their separate ways for eight months before eventually reconciling.

The couple has now been dating for eight years, and Ruru said the experience became an important lesson in how he views commitment and the consequences of his choices.

While discussing infidelity, Ruru also stressed that cheating is ultimately a decision. Although he acknowledged that working in the entertainment industry can make it easier for a person to encounter opportunities to cheat, he said the responsibility still lies with the individual.

“'Yung cheating, choice talaga siya. Nasa sa 'yo na 'yun kung gusto mong magkamali.”

Ruru also explained why he believes he has been able to avoid repeating the mistake. Referring to Bianca as his “batas,” he said he now has more reasons to stop himself whenever he encounters temptation.

“Marami lang akong pinanghahawakan sa panahon ngayon at sa buhay ko ngayon na [puwede ko nang tanungin na] 'Bakit ko pa gagawin 'to?'”

Among those reasons is his appreciation for Bianca and the love she has shown him. Ruru said he considers her someone he cannot easily replace and values the way she has loved him.

“Una sa lahat, napakaganda ni Bianca at hindi na ako makakahanap ng katulad niya. Hindi na ako makakahanap ng isang babaeng nagmahal sa 'kin ng katulad ng pagmamahal na binibigay niya.”

Should he face temptation again, Ruru said he would turn to his faith instead of allowing himself to make another mistake.
