Ruru Madrid has opened up about the challenges of balancing his career as an actor with his faith as a member of Iglesia ni Cristo, saying that his religious beliefs have led him to turn down certain projects and endorsements.

During his interview on “Fast Talk with Boy Abunda” on Tuesday, August 4, Ruru admitted that being an actor comes with responsibilities beyond performing, particularly because many people look up to him and consider him an inspiration. He also noted that a significant number of his fans are members of Iglesia ni Cristo, making it important for him to be mindful of the projects he takes on.
Ruru explained that not every aspect of an actor’s work may be understood by people who share his faith, which is why he and his team make an effort to discuss potential concerns before starting a project.
He said, “I'm going to be honest, Tito Boy, of course challenging siya sa pagiging isang aktor. I mean, syempre bilang isang aktor hindi ka lang naman umaarte. Marami rin pong mga tao na nag-l-look up sa'yo or nagsisilbing inspirasyon ka. At marami po sa mga tagahanga ko ay miyembro po ng Iglesia ni Cristo. So syempre, hindi naman po sa lahat ng pagkakataon ay mauunawaan po nila kung ano po 'yung ginagawa namin bilang isang aktor.”

Ruru went on to describe how he and his production team approach projects that could potentially conflict with his religious beliefs. Rather than simply viewing his faith as a restriction, he said they communicate with the production and directors beforehand to identify things that could be avoided or discussed.
He explained, “So ang ginagawa ko na lang po, bago pa po namin gawin ang isang proyekto, magkakaroon po kami ng let's say, para mag-uusap-usap kami ng production, mag-uusap-usap kami ng directors kung ano po 'yung mga hangga't maaari maiwasan. Pero, I wouldn't say na limitasyon siya kasi pwede naman po 'yung ipagpaalam.”
Ruru also acknowledged that his faith has directly influenced some of the professional opportunities he has accepted or declined. He revealed that there have already been projects and opportunities that he chose to reject because they did not align with the practices of his religion.
He added, “Pero totoo 'yan, marami na pong mga bagay na natanggihan ko just because of my faith... Bawal kaming mag-endorso ng alak, bawal kaming mag-endorso ng sugal.”
Ruru Madrid is a prominent Filipino actor, singer, and host who rose to fame as a runner-up on the reality talent competition "Protégé" in 2012. Known as the "Kapuso Primetime Action Hero," he is celebrated for his lead roles in hit series like "Encantadia," "Lolong," and "Black Rider," as well as his recent award-winning performance in the film "Green Bones." Moving into 2026, he continues to headline major action projects, including the upcoming series "Hari ng Tondo" and the historical film "Los Salvajes Bravos."
In the same interview, Ruru also talked about Rere’s marriage, revealing that he never imagined his younger sister would get married before him. Rere recently married basketball player Kai Sotto, a development Ruru described as unexpected but beautiful. He said he is happy to see his sister doing well and does not believe in the Filipino superstition of “sukob.” Meanwhile, Ruru remained open to the possibility of marrying Bianca Umali within the year.
Ruru also described Bianca Umali as the “batas” of his life, saying he is already embracing the “happy wife, happy life” mindset. He explained that his recent playful social media caption referred to his pregnant sister Rere as “buntis,” Kai as “bayaw,” and Bianca as “batas.” Ruru added that Bianca already knew she had the “batas” role in his life even before he shared the caption online.
